I'm looking to get my first proper road bike and after many hours searching i think i've got my top two.
First: surprise suprise... the Planet x with full Sram red £1300
Second: cube agree sl with full ultegra £1200
Both bikes look really good, the PX gets great reviews and the guys there have been very helpfull, the cube too is a work of art but it seems no one has one, the bike i'm looking at is the alu one not carbon.
If anyone has any thoughts on either bike, especially the cube, it would be much appreciated.

I am also seriously thinking of buying an Agree sl, here's a link to 5 reviews from people that have bought tried and tested this bike....all give it the full 5 stars http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Revi ... elID=44403
Also know a guy with one and he loves the bike, fast, with very quick response, stiff bike and still a smooth ride. Snappy and precise gear changes (Just a few of his words when he starts to rave about it) Be carful sizing the bike, Cubes tend to be small, so you might need a size bigger than some other makes. Where are you getting one for £1200? Maybe we can buy 2 together and get an even better deal?
Hope this helps with your choice0 -
Hi Dylan,
Thanks for the link, it all sounds good, Winstanley bikes are doing them for £1199, about the sizing I'm 6' with a 33" leg and the kind lady recommended 58" frame, still don't know though another £100 and i get a carbon frame with full sram red but i do like the look of the cube :?0 -
I think you should check the specs of the planet x again, i dont think it will be full sram red, shifters yes, but cassette and cranks may not be.0

Dylan my man, i have spoken to the guys at PX and they can do me a fixed spec bike with the old graphics (same frame), black (carbon weave) with full sram red including cassette and crank but not brakes for £1300 rrp £1399, now if you're interested let me know what size frame and i can see what they will do for 2 bikes.0

Dylan just for you

Hmmmm nice bike also......still think it cant be full red at that price....you got a tough choice....maybe some one with more bike experience will give you more useful advice. Sram red, would be ahead for ultegra. I still got a crush on the cube, looks like it wants to let rip on the tarmac, pin stripe writing on the black version and everything looks purpose made to match.....Its the cube for me.........Good luck with whatever to decide0

yeah the cube sure is a pretty thing, i like the little frame saver thingy at the back and the hidden cables... i thing it's the cube for me too, let me know if you get one yourself.0

Hi again, I got my New Cube Agree SL over the weekend....had only seen the red and white version in the flesh, and pics of the black. Dam I think the black is a work of art. A dream to ride, stiff and solid.....gear changes spot on the shifters do exactly what you want them to....brakes are like touch control and in the wet they preform really really well.....i love it......i changed the saddle to a selle smp (cheap one £29) because it suits me better, like sitting on air. Nothing wrong with the saddle that came with it, just not suited to my behind, maybe change it back when i get a few miles on the clock and my **** toughens up. Feel free if you got any questions you want to ask me about it, and i'll try answer the best i can. Dont know if i should frame it or ride it lol......Did you invest yet?0

Hi Dylan, Well done...my biggest concern was should i go for carbon or alu, so what is the weight like, also what size did you go for, what pedals do you use, how demanding was the initial set up, where did you get it from,
Going by what you have already said i don't think it being made of alu really matters...right that's it i'm getting one my search is over.
Thanks for getting back to me.0 -
Hi, Weight with pedals is about 8.2kg, i wont be doing the Tour De F..so i do think about weight but dont get hung up on it. 56cm frame i am 5'9, would like the stem to be 2cms shorter, might change it if it bugs me, for now i am a very happy chappy . Pedals...was going for R540, but got the R530 because (1) they are dual can be used with or without clipless shoes and (2) SPD cleats are sunk into the sole, so you can walk without doing cleat damage. Bike was fully set up and tuned for me, got it at CRC in N.Ireland. They did a price match to the link you gave me, many thanks for that my friend . About Carb v Alu a friend said to me this bike has a top end alu frame, and carbon with the same budget would be bottom end. Also if you read the reviews for the link i sent you, one guy came from carbon to this frame and has no regrets, actually was really happy he did make the choice.
I see it like this Cube frame class looks and inner cabling added class...Easton wheels and carbon fork class.....Syntace bars, stem, and seat post (10 year warranty) class ....
anything else? Ok yeah only Ultegra 6700 dotted all over yeah class.
Just wish my abillity was close to the abillity of the bike....but its not...outclassed
Let me know if you get one and what you think, beware 2010 stocks will be running low1199 is a great price, most sites i was checking had only a few sizes left. Did you see the 2011 model in cubes site?0 -
You might find this interesting http://cycletrack.tv/ ...three of your country men bought Cube agree sl's and this is their story.
I think i have settled on the cube now, as you say it's got so much class, the 2011 bike looks even better, but i do agree i'd better move fast before they go.
Good to hear you're happy with your "investment" , maybe that's the angle i should approach my wife with when i let her know i'm paying over a grand for a bicycle!
If i don't bite the bullet this week i'll do it early next week, i'll let you know.0 -
Have you considered the boardman ?
Its currently £999 - with SRAM rival - Personally I don't like the look of the thing - buts its a quality carbon frame, good enough components - and £200 cheaper than the bike you are considering.0 -
I have....briefly, it's just too ugly and i like pretty things, gets good reviews though.
No my mind is made up, it's the cube for me.
The Ribble Nero RC Shimano 105 is also very pretty!!!0
