Typically, under what circumstances would a topic become locked?

    Ok, no takers.

Allow me to be a little more specific.

We were having an entertainingly robust discussion on road beginners. Something about riding under the influence. Now, and for apparently no good reason, the thread is locked.

Just wondered if anyone knew why. I've no interest in restarting an illegal discussion, just don't like censorship.

Did you use any of these words or phrases:

    C@&*
    W%n+er
    Sm@lly B@%h@le
    Titties

    ?

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

No more than were absolutely necessary.

If you were discussing something illegal and encouraging people to do illegal activities it would probably be locked.

I assume your talking about "Falling Off....." having read through it I would say its pretty obvious why it got locked, if you left that one running much longer it would have turned bad.

End of the day you have to remember that bikeradar isn't just a forum, they have a brand image to protect and with these forums generally rating quite high on google they don't want lots of negative associations

    Not obvious, don't be ridiculous.

Why don't they lock it when it turns out bad. Rather than making some half assed judgement on what may or may not happen.

Not one person said anything controversial or offensive.

    Irritating, that's all.

I'm beginning to suspect it depends who gets involved.

I find this thread offensive, controversial and degrading and I want it locked.

    And the OP banned.

Or I'll burn my collection of Cycling Plus magazines, AND YOU KNOW WHAT SORT OF TROUBLE THAT COULD LEAD TO

Could you use the burning as a bargaining tool, to make sure Upton Park doesn't get moved!!?

  • This forum is much more liberal than others. Tyr posting on the what hi fi forum, ther mods regularly post, and there is so much censorship its sometimes annoying - for exaple you cannot post a link to a competitive forum, and you are not allowed to discuss moderation!! It reminds me a little of the scene in the Blues Bros where they visit the Convent at the beginning of the film.

Hi, I'm one of the forum admins, and it was I who locked the topic.

We lock topics when we feel we need to stamp our authority a bit, make sure you know who's in control. Otherwise, we may end up with forum posters who have their own opinions, and that can't be allowed.

whyamihere - if indeed it was you that locked the thread, why don't you at least tell him why? Seems fair to me, as he obviously doesn't know.

    Yeah, fair enough.

It got reported because of the discussion of illegal drug use. I looked at it, decided that the complaint had merit, and rather than delete all the replies focussing on drug use, chose to lock the topic instead.
  • oh! thought this thread was about top lockpicks ........ carry on!
