Only £13k with a scratched top tube, no warranty and noted as "sale is final". Sounds a bargain. If only it came with pedals I would buy it myself...

its Ferrari bike - isnt there a danger that just when youre about to be first up the hill or across the line, you get a call to let someone else pass and go before you?

That doesn't look like a scratch. It looks identical to the damage on my top tube caused by a crash where the bars crushed the top tube as I fell. There was a crack in the paint so I carefully sanded it and it now looks just like that. It looks to be a bit far back to be caused by the bars though and if it's in the centre of the tube I think that's where the carbon is at its thinnest.

It may be like mine and non-structural, but for a £13,000 bike that's not really acceptable!

The description for how the "scratch" happened seems a bit suspect......."bike carrier holding two bikes" for that price I would be wanting a bit more of an explanation!

I asked the seller about the scratch and he assured me it was nothing! I replied saying that if I was spending £13,000 on a bike I'd want the damage to be x-rayed and assessed by an independent expert. No reply to that.

I can't see why anyone would sand a scratch and leave it like that. Like I said above it looks like crush damage that has (at least) cracked the superficial carbon layer. In this case you'd sand it to tidy it up.

  • I wouldn't spend £1000 on that bike let alone $17,000  basically buying it knowing the frame is probably a write off.

Winter hack, maybe ? Stick some crud catchers on it and some lights, hey presto a snappy commuter. Stick some 28 tyres on it too. And a horn. :D
