Eventful ride today

Not been out of the road bike in a while due to laziness, been just riding the fixie round town. I went for a ride up to the top of Snake Pass and back home (30 mile round trip) and had 3 'incidents'.
I nearly shat myself when I got to the top of the pass as a car coming the opposite way nearly hit me head on while he was overtaking 4 cars at once. I was just smiling as I got to the top too, until that happened.
When I got back down to Glossop a car pulled out on me which I narrowly avoided, skidding onto the otherside of the road. It felt odd when a couple of pedestrians applauded me for avoiding the car.
Finally, a boy racer with a road rage problem started beeping at me coming through Hyde, I think he wanted me off 'his' road. Well, I lost it then, my mother wouldn't be proud of the things that were coming out of my mouth.
So what could / should have been a nice ride was ruined by idiot car drivers. I nearly had a tour ruined in June by being the victim of a hit and run while riding to Halifax. Luckily, the Police got him 2 miles down the road and I had a week to rest up and get the bike mended.
I don't know whether I'm extremely unlucky or drivers in and around Manchester are complete idiots. Maybe both.

You must be so unlucky, the most I've had happen in Manchester is a car turning left and me going into the back, that's about it.

30 mile round trip sounds short to top of Snake Pass, did you just go up and down it? And how close to the city center is your starting point? Sounds like an interesting ride to get some fast climbing practice in, I thought I'd have to do 50 miles to get to Snake Pass and back.
  • I live right next to Gorton Tesco on Hyde Road (A57) about 3 miles from the city centre. 15 miles to the summit, 15 miles back. My knee was giving me a bit of jip so I headed back from the top. It's good to usually drop down the other side and make your way back through Castleton, up Winnats and then whichever way.
