Regardless of what roads it's held on to call it the "Tour of Britain" surely it should have a stage from each of the 4 countries. If you side with the argument that Wales is a principality we have a Tour of England.
As for Scotland- Applecross to the Cairngorm Mountain car park, over the BNB as Jim says. 120miles....every year, forget the manky cities and boring borders  8)

There are plenty of places in Britain that the Tour doesn't reach.

The TdF doesn't go through every province in France.

It's just the name of the race.

Just take it down the western half of the country. Start in Scotland. Then have stages in the Lakes, Peak District, through Wales, Exmoor, Dartmoor and maybe a final stage in Bristol with a finish at the top of Park Street. Most of the hillier areas would be included and transfers would be minimised.
  • Some people just can't get their head around this it seems...the race goes to the areas that will pay money to host it, simple as that.

Yep, but in the event that public funding isn't available next year and they got a bif private sector sponsor my race route would be something like this:-

Stage 1 Fort William to Glasgow (basically A82, taking in Glen Coe)
Stage 2 Glasgow to Dumfries via Girvan and Galloway Forest Park
Stage 3 Penrith to Morecombe (or Blackpool if not too far) going over Kirkstone, Wrynose and Hardnott
Stage 4 Skipton to Macclesfield or Stoke taking in the southern part of the Dales and the Peaks.
Stage 5 Stoke to Hereford or Worcester possibly taking in Shropshire Hills
Stage 6 Hereford to Cardiff taking in Gospel Pass, the Tumble and climbing from Aberdare to Maerdy
Stage 7 Bristol to Barnstaple via Porlock Hill and Lynmouth
Stage 8 Exeter to Bristol taking in Blackdowns, Cheddar Gorge and finish at the top of Park Street in Bristol

Make the most of our scenery, get in some good climbs, keep transfers reasonably short, take in Scotland, England and Wales and have stage starts and finishes in some decent sized towns. Graham, if you need some help planning next year's route give me a shout
