Hey everyone, been looking through the forums about front lights and although I would love a Hope or Magicshine LED I'm not sure I can justify the cost at the moment.

So what do people recommend for about £25?

Ideally I'd like something that's as bright as possible, has a flashing mode and is weatherproof / reliable.

I don't do any unlit country lane riding or off road so something that makes people see me over lighting my way is more desirable. Having said that if I can get something for £25 that also lights my way I wouldn't complain!

I see deal extreme lights come up a lot but how reliable / quick is the service?

Cheers peeps!

  • I used this one all last winter:

I have not had a problem with it and I found it easily bright enough for my commute along unlit country roads.

    +1 for the Lunar 35.

I only use it as a back-up, as I have a Dinotte as a main, but it is very bright for the money and is my sole light in flash mode for dawn / dusk commutes. More than adequate even for unlit roads at a reasonable speed.

Used mine for 6 months last year with no reliability problems at all.

I have bought FIVE front lights thanks to the reports here, I am NO cyclist, like most here simply shopping in the rain etc, but I have three sons, and safety is 100% paramount.

Revolution lights from edinborough cycles are the ones I bought, though these I have also bought at one third the price from ebay and they apprear almost (90% identical, check the pics of both.

  • Oh and for the price (I have mainly led lenser torches, very expensive) buy one, remove the metal trrip and you have a superb hand torch

Hmm, Jeremy I might be following in your footsteps re number of front lights. Seems to be a winter shopping fave of mine.
  • Just plumped for the Revolution from Edinburgh cycles. The front light got a good review on here but you can't seem to get it on it's own.

No bother...... a front and rear set with the Vision High Power front for £20. I'll have 2 rear lights now!!!! 8)

Got a pair of 1W Smart BSpokes on the front as I like a bit of redundancy http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Smart_bspoke_1W_Front_Light/5360047700/

  • I am also fed up with pedestrians and dogs on cycle routs so I took advice here and bought an airzound, looking forward to tomorrow

I have two flashing on the front and two non flashing front lights, as I also have a topeak handlebar bag for shopping I found the best way to mount the lights was with a T bar extenstion, one each side Minoura Space Grip Extender Bracket from edinburgh cycles, these help me to avoid being hit by Mrs "just dropped the kids off at school now I must drive round the supermarket car park oblivious to all others".

I put in an order for a set of MTB lights from DX, so 2 torches, 2 mounts, 4 batteries, charger and battery cases. Came to about £60, but obviously if you only needed the one torch and 2 batteries it would be a bit cheaper.

The order was placed on the 26th of august and it all turned up the day before yesterday, so about 12 days, which is pretty good really. They aren't actually for me, I've already got a set which I used for MTBing all through the winter. The odd bodge is needed, like putting a single 'wrap' of sellotape around the batteries to stop the buzzing/rattling sound. And one of my torches started flickering, but I just had to tighten the switch in the base and it was fine.

"As I said last time, it won't happen again."
  • Just a by the way, the very best way to mount anything to a handlebar I have found is to buy those large puncture repair patches about 6" by 3", cut off a strip about 1/2" wide and wrap that round first you may need two.

    1. They do not slip and prevent slipping
    2. They "cling" to the bar so you don't have to hold them when attaching the light6 etx.

  • I would recommend Edinburgh cycles revolution lights. I have just purchsed 2 of these:

    http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLq ... ct=c009275

and for £2.99 each they are the dogs nads. :D

They are identical to one made by RSP which retails at ten quid and give the same light output at my wife's Cateye which costs 25 quid.

At £2.99 they are well worth trying. They are online or if you have a shop nearby, they have bucket loads in the sale baskets........

I ride on road in areas of varying lighting. Have one flashing/ one full beam generally. They light the road ahead and warn oncoming cars of my presence.
