New road rider looking to join a club - I live in Penn, so High Wycombe and Beaconsfield are the nearest 'big' places to me.

TIA.

Used to live in Penn but in my pre-cycling days.

    How about

    http://www.amershamrcc.com/

    They are in great missenden.
  • Thames Velo also at Maidenhead
  • You've also got Maidenhead & District Cycling Club in Maidenhead and there's also the Evolution Triathlon Club and Berkshire Tri Squad in Windsor.

I'm a member of both MDCC & Evo Tri.

  • Try VC10 from Great Missenden - the best Thames valley cycling club I've ever come across - http://www.vc10.org.uk/vc10/

Thank you guys. Can I just ask - are the clubs you've suggested friendly to road newbies?

VC10 are very welcoming for newcomers. They have a great club run and weekly meet every Thurs night over winter for core training.

They are not far from you in Penn.

Alternatively you could meet up with me one weekend. I live in Burnham Beeches and cycle through Penn quite alot.

ARCC are friendly to road newbies. They have 3 different ride abilities on Sunday morning and are set out to be a social ride with a coffee/cake stop half way. Each group is usually around 10-20 riders.

PM me if you want further information or e-mail them from the club website http://www.amershamrcc.com/ and you can join the ride on a Sunday morning before deciding if you want to join.
  • Also High Wycombe CC (www.highwycombecc.org/blog/) & local CTC group (South Bucks CTC) which has a number of subgroups in Thames Valley & Chilterns. They're a good source for finding all the little lanes around the area.
  • The BEST club around Beaconsfield, a subjective matter,

Amersham RC, seem likley a friendly bunch well enough organised run a few events of their own and seem to have a wide range of membership abilities.

VC10, again a good bunch of people with a good Thames Valley base membership, mostly made up of former High Wycombe CC members

High Wycombe CC, again good people, longest standing club in the area, wide range of abilities accross the membership so seems to be a pace for everyone.

As to which is best, depends who you get on with , stytle to suit you . They all have websites with published club runs/club nights and such so why not try each of them , I know HWCC recently added a beginners run sort of thing on a Saturday so depending on your fitness or group riding experience something like that may be an option. I any case welcome to the road and look forward to hopefully riding with you sometime
