Alex Dowsett take sthe GC lead after a lumpy 2nd stage. No full results yet, but it appears Phinney didn't survive the hills.

    Woo hoo!
  • Apparently Phinney crashed, but he did finish the stage.

That was short-lived. Yannick Eijssen takes the first mountain stage (well, Massif Central, but mountaintop finish) convincingly, and the GC lead. Dowsett finishes in the grupetto 23 min down.
  • That is a shame for Dowsett

  • Wasn't he more of a TT'er anyway? might take time to develop climbing legs.

I am 36 and still waiting for mine to come good.
  • It's a shame this race has no live stream/ticker. It's the biggest u23 stage race and is often a lot more exciting than professional stage races (smaller teams, more attacks). There are just 7 stages, but 2 of them are mountain stages and the final stage is a mountain tt.

  • Hoping that Daniel Teklehaimanot can make an impact today or tomorrow and ven take the win. Just read an article about him in the latest Cycle Sport.

In the GC Andrew Talansky is currently 6th, almost a minute behind, all of which was lost in a crash earlier this week.

There were several DNFs today including Vermeltfoort, Dowsett and Teklehaimanot.

Talansky's one to watch, he's had a very full season with wins at the highest level. No guarantee of future success but he's been quite dominant.

Has he signed a pro contract yet? JV is bigging him up on Twitter...

He's on the Garmin amateur squad, Holowesko and it's uncertain if he'll go to Garmin because of the Cervelo merger.

  • A little old news but this Tour will certainly help their bid to become Pro Conti in 2011

  • This is a detailed account from Phinney of his part in the race:

Impressive I have to say and there is definitely a good mentality and skillset. Certainly one to be big in the scene eventually.
