    He's the guy that lost most of his 2007 season following a serious training crash that left him in an induced coma for ages I think. Won Stage 2 at last year's Tour of Britain.

    Didn't realise he was U19 World Champ in 2003 (as well as winning the U23 Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2006) until Wiki'd him.

    Never quite fulfilled that early potential, probably due to his crash.

    Why has he decided to call it a day?

    He had glandular fever, and then took a year out to visit the States, and reluctantly decided he couldn't return.

    A great shame- but Rabobank seem to have kept the door open for him if he changes his mind in the future.

    It is a great shame and he seemed a nice guy from watching the ToB highlights last year.

    I hope he makes a full recovery.
