I always use payperparcel they use DHL but at muchly reduced prices.

Dependant on weight prices go from £12.99 to £25, I havent had to pay more than £20 and thats with insurance.
  • Do they box it up for you or do you need to do this?

    thanks

In your dreams mate, you have to pack the bike up in the box, they just collect said box - they are not interested whats inside it. Its up to you to ensure the bike is well protected for its journey, remember it will be thrown about by delivery drivers and staff at delivery hubs.

I only use proper bike boxes, usualy obtained from halfords as they are happy to give you old ones for free. Then mark up as fragile.

You will have to remove the front wheel bars, and pedals to get it in the box, these will need wraping in somthing to protect them, I use pipe insulation on the forks, frame, crank arms etc..
  • There is a shipping firm that supplies packaging for bikes, I'll try and find the info.

In the meantime you could always visit your local bike shop and ask for some cardboard bike box material (that the shop bikes are sent in) as the shops often have a few and just chuck them out. With these you keep the wheels on the frame, remove the pedals and turn the handlebars sideways 90 degrees by loosening the stem bolts at the fork steerer end. After you have packed the bike just send it DHL or similar.

You'll have to check if they do domestic shipping in addition to the more obvious international services.

Their bike packaging is shown at http://www.excess-baggage.com/baggage_s ... acking.php
