I have somehow managed to scrape the inside of my right hand ergo lever. Is there something that I can use to seal it or being carbon is it likely to fail at the wrong moment. Is it possible to buy a right hand Chorus 10 speed lever. Any advice welcome.

Yes, you can buy a new lever blade - last time I checked it was nearly the same price as a whole shifter! Best option it to rub it down with wet and dry and apply some clear lacquer - it doesn't affect form or function. I've ridden around on scuffed ones for years - shows my bike's been used, not some ornament. Finally, single shifters do come up on ebay now and again.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Scraping the inside is quite an acheivement??
  • I'll explain this for the idiot above. The scrape is on the inside edge not the inside of the lever. Thank you Monty Dog for the help. Bill57 we can do without you on the forum. Hopefully when you need help there'll be no-one there to offer it, just make a daft sarcastic remark. However, if you really are that stupid accept my apologies.

I wouldn't take it personally. The "??" after Bill57's comment tells me it was more of a question than a sarcastic comment. I'll admit, I wondered how you'd managed to scrape the wheel facing edge of an ergolever... but I kept the question to myself because the kettle had just boiled, not because I was worried about upsetting someone.

You need to have thicker skin, man.

Must admit, I thought the same as Bill57. I don't think he thought you meant the internals of the lever.

So how did you manage to scrape the inside edge of your lever? All mine are on the outside facing edges / surfaces.

Thanks for the support, lads, but I'm afraid socrates is a bit prone to calling people idiots. I like to think I try to be helpful, but sometimes the question invites a different approach.

But then you make the assumption that you're talking to folk with a bit of wit and a sense of humour ... sadly not always true.
  • Good excuse to buy a new bike heh

  • Jesus, somebody has a stick up their arse.

I think Bill was just pointing out that most people get scratches on the outer sides of shifters, but you seem to have scratched it near the thumb shifter.

As long as there isn't any deep gouges I reckon it should be fine.
