I'm after a new jersey/jacket type thing but I dont know if what I want exists anywhere so I was hoping that some of you guys would be able to tell me if i can get what i want anywhere.

What i'm after is a warm jersey that will be showerproof and breathable. I dont want something waterproof as i have an eVent jacket for heavy rain but i want something that will shrug off the odd shower on those days when it looks changeable. I also want the top to be warm enough to wear on its own on chilly mornings/autumn days but not so thick that i can't add a layer beneath it on colder days.

So i basically want a thin thermal jersey that is showerproof - does such a beast exist?

I bought an Endura one from Evans that i rekon fits your criteria fairly well.

It's the one Evans have as their uniform type jacket.

Lots of people seem to like Gore Phantoms for this sort of thing.

    i think so mate yes.
  • Sounds like a softshell jersey might fit the bill for you. What MTB have run an autumn clothing test this month and it contains a few softshell jerseys from what I can remebr - it certainly contains some long sleeve jerseys that sound like what your after - might be worth a look.

I won't disclose the best rated jersey here from them just in case I spoil it for someone! :)

    +1

I've got a Gore Phantom. Not cheap, but it's a fantastic bit of kit. The arms zip off, which is handy. It's water resistant, windproof. That plus a regular baselayer or merino wool t-shirt are all I needed (on the top half at least) right through a winter of night rides.

The Endura MT500 as mentioned is a great peice of kit, I love mine, I wore just a long sleeve thermal and the MT500 during the last winter and wasnt hot or cold it regulates temperature extremely well and shrugs off a shower or two. The Gore Alp X is also a very good softshell-esq (very similar) top that can shrug off the odd shower but more pricey.
