Mudguard fitting on Ribble alloy frames

I understand that the winter trainer has extra frame clearance for fitting mudguards, and Ribble say that their 7000 alloy sloping frames will only accept Crud raceguards or similar. However, I have seen a Ribble sloping frame with full mudguards fitted.
Has anyone fitted the winter trainer type guards to a Ribble alloy sloping frame?
Also, can any Ribble winter bike owners let me know how their bikes ride. Do they feel quite responsive and how do they handle?
Thanks in advance.

They are about as responsive as an £80 frame and a £90 set of wheels can get.
So, in truth, not very responsive.
But durable nevertheless.
If you want more 'response' from the bike try some some 1500g wheels and some 180g clinchers.
Other than that,try a different bike.0 -
I have a sloping TT Ribble winter bike (matt black) with full guards, they don't sell them any longer.
Ride is good, for the money 8)0 -
Thanks Flasher, it was a matt black sloping frame that I saw with full mudguards. Sounds like a different frame from the current line-up.
Durability is high on my list for a winter bike, but not if it means sacrificing all the fun. Back to the drawing board I think.

Yep, it's the matt black one that's sloping with full guard clearance and mounts. It also takes long drop brakes.
It's better than I expected it to be. Managed to get it to just under 20lbs. That's with carbon bars, a titanium railed Toupe saddle and PX Model B wheels with Rubino Pro Slicks.
Not sure on the availability of these. I got mine last Oct/Nov time and they only had the one size in stock. Later on I noticed they got the full range of sizes back but it seems to have vanished now.BMC Pro Machine | Ribble Gran Fondo | Planet-X SL Pro Carbon | Specialized Langster 2008 | Ribble Winter Sloping | Trek 8000 | Onza Blade 2009
