i believe it is pronounced "sheepsteeth"

i always assumed it was

"al" as in Al Green

and

"fine" as in i am going to maidstone tomorrow to pay the fine for speeding in a van.

It is pronounced Al FEE neh it is Italian for "to the end"

It is also a musical notation to repeat a composition from the beginning to the end.
