I have just got a nice bike: specialized Allez, and don't like the thought of leaving it outside, currently I have an Onguard bulldog (though this has fallen apart, Onguard have told me that they will replace it so I am going to sell it with my old bike). I think I should probably get a nicer lock preferably the best one, which would you all recommend the most, I am torn between the: Abus Granit X-Plus 54 or Kryptonite New York Standard? I am not sure but I think the Abus is slightly ligter (can't find the weight for Krypt apart from on amazon, anyone know it?) but the Krypt is thicker by 3mm, they are both Sold secure gold, but also the Krypt has the theft insurance guarantee (though is this worth it, thieves seldom leave behind the locks?). So I am wondering wether the extra 3mm is worth the extra weight?
Any advice would be much appreciated

There's really not much in it, get whichever is cheapest. Both locks are just as secure, if a thief is tooled-up to break one, they'll be able to break the other. Sold Secure Gold is not that helpful as a guide - both locks will yield to an angle grinder in about a minute, which is a slightly sobering thought if you're leaving it outside for regular periods.0

almax chain and padlocks

The chains look very tough, but are quite expensive + heavy. Regarding the previous post, do you think it is even worth getting one of these or should I just stay with the Onguard Bulldog?

No, I didn't mean to imply that all d-locks are equal! I think most 13mm locks can be cut by hand - 16mm tend to require angle grinders. The exception is the Abus, by virtue of its square profile.
Almax chains are the daddy but only worthwhile if leaving outdoors - you wouldn't want to lug one around! If you're just locking your bike up round town, either of the locks you mention would be fine.0
