Havent biked much this year for one reason or another, but for some reason, even though winter is approaching, i have the bug again.
Im thinking of maybe competing on some level next season. Im trying to figure out how much it will all cost - ie entry fees, race tyres, training tyres, parts etc etc.
Do you have to have insurance to compete?
I dont really have the build or ability in timetrials, more of a climber. so are there many amateur races with climbs in?

entry fees & travel will probably be your biggest costs. Entries are usually about £15 per race. No reason why a set of race tyres should not last you a season. Training tyres will obviously depend on how many miles you do and how lucky you are with punctures, etc.
Racing accidents may mean damage to the bike, but you can't really plan for that. You will probably need a race licence, which will pay for itself if you plan to do more than a handful or races a year - BC licence includes some insurance.
Most road circuits will include some amount of climbing - some more than others - obviously depends where you live or where you plan to race.0 -
Have read of the tli website
http://www.theleagueinternational.com/
and if over 40 , the
http://lvrc.org/index.asp
More cost in travelling to events involved than actual wear and tear, entries etc probably.
Use the winter to get fitness up with a structured training plan for road racing.
Dont forget to have a look on the Amateur race section on this forum as well.0 -

+1 to TLI and LVRC, just dont imagine that the LVRC events will be easy cos they are for 40 and over. Some strong old b******s out there.0
