External BB bearings

Looking at the new bottom bracket bearings, they seem far more exposed to the elements than internal bearings (behind cups) So anyone think they may be larger but won't last as long in the British weather?
Say... That's a nice bike..

Mine have been fine for 2 years / 2 winters.
Mind you, they are going to have to do well to beat the LX octalink in my mtb which is still silky smooth 12 years on0 -
They are more exposed but they have better seals.
They feel fairly stiff to turn by hand as the seals cause quite a bit of friction.
Also maybe water just runs off unlike cartridge BBs which can hold water in the recessed bearings :?:He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0
