Routes from Central London to Denham/Gerrards Cross area

I'm weighing up whether, as part of my mammoth 5 day commuting tour next week, I should cycle from Bloomsbury to Denham, where I will spend the middle of the week. It's 20 miles, which is fine from a distance point of view, albeit longer than usual, but I'm wondering about the route.
The direct way is along the A40/Westway/Western Avenue, which according to the maps has some seperate cycleways, but not for all of it. Has anyone tried riding the whole length of that road? Any other recommendations? When I go to Ealing, I go via the Uxbridge road, but that would land my up very south of where I want to be.

I did this on Friday (I think) and went along the A4042 just south of the A40. mostly bus lanes, a lot of traffic lights, not that quick - but not that bad either.http://www.georgesfoundation.org

According to Google Maps, the A 4042 is in Wales? Do you mean the A4020?0

I ride along the A4020 instead of the A40, it's just better by miles.'12 CAAD 8 Tiagra0

Yeah, I've just looked into it, and it wouldn't get me anywhere near as far South as I thought. Plus I know the road as far as Ealing, and it's good for cycling. I think I'll follow it all the way to Uxbridge, and go North from there. 23 miles - that's a decent ride.0

That's a similar route to mine, I park in Ickenham (other side of the A40 from Uxbridge) and then cycle into London and up to Camden, returning the same way in the evening. Not a bad ride at all really.'12 CAAD 8 Tiagra0 -
