The decathlon website says a reading store will be opening soon - does anyone know where this will be?

Forbury Retail Park (near the prison), opening late October apparently......
  • Not too far from the centre then, handy to know.

    Thanks
  • Is that a new store or is it going in to replace one of the existing retailers? Can't imagine there's enough room on the Forbury Retail Park for a typical, full-sized, Decathlon if it's a completely new store.
There's no such thing as too old.

Its where a sports shop used to be - JJB sports I think. It was a pretty darn big store inside.

Some of you have queried where we are setting up....we will be occupying two units, one of which used to be JJB Sports.

  • Can we have some free stuff?

Actually on a serious note, what is the stock you carry like in comparison with the Decathlon stores in France? They are the only experience I have of the shop.

I'd be interested to know what cycling clothing and equipment you stock as well. Especially the big brands...

Or she could just tell us and I can decide whether a trip to Reading is worthwhile or not! Then again, Costco is in Reading, so it might not be an entirely wasted trip...
  • Hi guys,

kitsunegari: There will be lots of giveaways in the Opening Week down in the store, and offers on items that are for that short period only. Good to hear that you have been in our stores over in France - the stock we have over here is exactly the same. Our 'in house' brand Btwin makes up most of our stock in store
    http://www.btwincycle.com/EN/.
If you look at some bike reviews on the web/in specialist magazines, they always rate highly

The Mad Rapper: As the above.
Check out http://www.btwincycle.com/EN/. for a better idea of the range we will be carrying.
It certainly is worth a trip over - especially if you have never been to a Decathlon store before.

Bar Shaker: There are still places left at the VIP Opening Event so contact me if you wish to attend.

I hope that helps you all - let me know if you have any other questions.

    Cheers

    Kate

Thanks Kate but I'm over in Essex so have Lakeside just down the road.

Your biking shorts with the 'Comp Gel' chamois are the best I have ever worn.

Ummm... don't want to seem rude, but how can it be a VIP evening when you've opened it up to the bottom-feeders who frequent this site? :D

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

    @ratsbey
  • Hey,

Ratsbeyfus, It is a VIP opening, I have simply opened a select number of spots to forum users on here as I could see there was interest brewing.

We want to invite a cross section of people from across the Berkshire community, and celebrate with those who are already talking about our imminent arrival.

Hopefully we'll see you down at the store sometime

    :D
