Veloflex Record tyres for Crits?

Mate of mine has given me three very lightly used (Newport and Manchester Velodromes only) Veloflex Record tyres (not tubs). They are stupidly light, and somewhat thin, but I'm thinking of fitting them to some Cosmic Carbones I've got for local 10m TTs and circuit races at Hillingdon and the suchlike.

I don't think I'd risk them with 'normal' road riding.

Anyone got experience of them, or care to comment?

  • Good for TTs but I'd say a bit light for crit s- Veloflex Paves are better.

I use them in TT's, though as you say they are a very light tyre, and I don't think they are the best for crit racing, I guess it depends on how clean the track surface is I suppose.

Fine for TTs maybe, but skinny tyres don't quite give you the same level of progressive handling and feel as a fatter one IME - bigger air pocket means you're less likely to get a pinch puncture too.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • I would be much more about puncture than grip cause they are madly thin.
