Righto, things about your bikes, what is your 'Room 101' when building a bike, something that you are loathe to do, hate doing, and would rather wait than have an interim fix?

... i.e., for me it's.....

mismatched wheels on a bike, especially different colours!!!

.... anymore?

mismatched brakes, there is no reasons why they cant be used but i couldnt run a bike with mismatched anything.

Lock on grips. I just prefer comfort.

I have an XT front end (XTR cables tho) and and XTR rear (XT Cassette tho)

    Does that count?

I hate QRs that are done up with the lever facing down, i.e. not butted to frame or fork - there's just no need.
  • People who put bigger rotors on the back than on the front.

Day must do massiv skidz innit!

Think you have all misunderstood the point, but no worries as some interesting points coming up, what I meant was when you build your own bike, what 'aesthetically' boils your blood?

Or when you see someone elses bike what is it that annoys you?

    So far:

    Mismatched wheels
    Mismatched BRAKES
    weird rotor sizing
    QRs facing down

Another one for me is soooooooppppppper long seatpost and stem stack height on a 15" frame that is being ridden by someone who is 6' 7"

oh and Ben, front mechs piss me off especially when on a double, I actually find the rear easier to set up :?

Not having the right tool/s for the task at hand, but absolutely büllshîtting yourself that you can can do it anyway.. I am sure we've all been there

A mixture of disc and rim brakes on a bike or a mixture of cable and hydro discs..

I know how to spell it but was typing phonetically (in a sense).

But thanks for pointing it out, but now fixed thanks very much - I am not an illiterate ASBO

    Steady!

I don't mind the bikes per-say.. I just think Brant talks arse of the highest class.
I had an argument with him on here a while back I think as to why he said the Ragley bikes were "sooooo much better" and why didn't he just make his bikes good in the 1st place

My fav quote of his is "probably an 18" frame" - i think he said this to everyone!

that webbed bit on the back of fox fork cross brace.
never been clean since day 1 !!!

    and

Moving a bike around when not riding it. it suddenly massive and ungainly.
the pedals and bars bang into everything, then you lean it up.
    its fine for a minute.
then it takes a dive like ronaldo.
  • anyone who walks into halfords, sees the carrera fury and then buys a boardman sport. WHY!!!!!!!

and also, the lefty fork, looks all icky (IMHO)
  • bulky saddles.

    tyres with coloured sidewalls/treads.... WHY?

also long stams.... Nobody needs anything over 90mm, if you do you need a diferent frame, or are weird.... it looks lame and screw up th handling.

Daft I know but mix brands, I'm a bit OCD but I can't do for example a SRAM shimano mix drivetrain or arockshox fork and a fox shock. It's awful I know and it does my own head in that it comes above functionality. I'm the same with my kit, I can't mix, for example fox and 661 stuff. I'm like it with lots of stuff though too, footy kit, car tyres, furniture.

    +Potato

bl**dy mtb standards......swing of the front mech, bb shell widths, conventional/semi/intergrated headsets.

and hangers! all 6 million different designs!!!

Oh Hai! :D (110mm on XTC, 100mm on NRS)

For me, when building a bike it's colour cordination. You have no idea how much the blue forks annoy me on the XTC. *shudders* I'm considering removing the blue coating on the crown and polishing it up to look like chrome and replacing the lowers with a set of white ones I have. But then I'd do this and then still end up getting them re-sprayed red...

Also dirt/mud/dust. I really hate getting my bikes dirty. Yes, I know I'm a bit obsessive where cleaning them is concerned...

My ars* can't take the drumming it used to, so no matter how much i want to be hammered, I feel like something will tear.

To be honest, i don't think that has anything to do with hardtails
