Hi All,

I'm in need of a set of muguards to prepare for the rainy weather, which so far I've managed to avoid somewhat. Which one shall I get for my Trek 1.5 compact?

- http://www.evanscycles.com/products/sks ... k-ec012084
- http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cru ... t-ec024071
- or anything else you have in mind.

How do I figure out if the guards will fit my tyre? If I decide to upgrade the wheels to, say, Mavic Cosmic Carbon SL 2010 Wheelset will these fit?

Please also say why you prefer one from the other.

Those are wheels not tyres. It's the tyres you need to worry about, not the wheels!

Have a look at the bike review site in my signature for a review of the Cruds...
  • Cruds.
  • Cruds , there is a new updated 2011 version on the market. SKS raceblades should be burned in a big pile asap!
  • Race Bloods or poo. Bought them, didn't work.................so I bought another bike! Really.
    Say... That's a nice bike..

+1 Cruds - I've never tried them, but setting them up has to be eaiser than the raceblades. They're a real bitch.

    Cruds look cooler too.

    How have the Mk2 changed?

Apart fro being longer - and stronger (as described), is there any other difference to warrant an upgrade?

    Connections changed??

Connections are the same (but stronger.) The extra coverage is great!

Make you have enough clearance for the cruds, Mr. Crud told me you have to be able to fit a 5mm allen key between the tyre and the brake or they won't fit.

Yeah, there appears to be a fit issue on some bikes. IIRC Planet Xs are a bit tight...
  • My Crud MK II's came this morning. Awesome. And, for whatever reason, just worked straight away.

    Facebook? No. Just say no.
  • I'm glad for you. I bought cruds last year and always though it would be a miracle if they fitted on my allez sport. I was right, clearances just too tight to get them to run freely.
Admittedly I've got 700x25's on instead of 23's but even then with the smaller tyres I think it's a long shot.

That 2mm difference on the tyre will make a big difference to fit.
  • It'd be great if someone with a trek 1.5 would confirm whether the Cruds fitted on it or not.

I just fitted a set of SKS chromeplastic mudguards on my GF's trek 1.2WSD with no problems. (ok it took a while, but they go on fine

I would fit these as a proper set of guards over the roadracers.... i
