Fantastic looking bike how are you finding it ??2010 Orange Crush Custom

really really enjoying it. got new wheels now as i found the combats too heavy and cup and cone bearings abit pooey. with the superstar wheels on it runs lovely, and its sooooo much fun when riding is abit more technical. plus its given me waaaay more confidence to start attacking hills and drops, which is brilliant.
so yeah, all round a very very happy bunny.0 -
Nice 8)0
-
Looking nice!
How much travel do the forks have though?0 -
Sorry to hijack, but there seems to be a lot of interest in the Ragley stable, and I am interested in one too. But what is the difference between mmbop and blue pig. I can see what it is in the geometry but what is the difference in the real world they are both advertised as Hardcore.0
-
mmmbop is alu, blue pig is steel.0
-
valy think they are on 120mm at the moment. over xmas im planning on removing the spacer, to bring them up to 140mm, but im waiting till im back at home and have the help of my trusted mechanic buddy before i do
and Muddylegs yeah, thats the only real difference, mmbop also has a removable mech hanger which is really good, and is abit cheaper. mmbop also has a tapered headtube, which means it either needs forks with a tapered steerer, or a reducer headset.
you can pick the mmbop in a small up of CRC for £150, i got my blue pig for £205, but that took alot of searching.
personally, i love my lil pig, and its definately a big change from the old ALU saracen i used to ride.0 -
Can you feel the difference between the frames?
Of course, might be hard to do with all the different components.0 -
yeah the swap from the mantra to the ragley was noticeable, but not hugely, because at the time i kept all the components and swapped only the frame,
it does feel more comfey, and abit easier to go faster through stuff since i swapped the frames
however the real test will be at xmas, when i can do the route i always used to do on the saracen on the finished pig, (ie revelations and superstar wheels). then ill have a direct comparison.
i will say thou, on the bits of london to brighton off road that were proper off roady (kinda technical, i.e. fun) it was lovely, super composed and easy to ride. does give me loads of confidence to just run down hills without the brakes on, which wasnt something i did on the saracen that much.0 -

MMMBop has identical Geo, but is made from alu, has a 1.5 headtube, a replaceable mech hanger and is lighter... but its also supposed to have a harsher ride.I like bikes and stuff0
-
went out for a proper ride today and had brilliant fun right up until the front brake completely broke.
however it did give me an opportunity to get some pictures on the bike complete with new wheels
so Viola:

but... but brakes are supposed to brake, right?0
-
haha a very good point but unfortunately they have failed to stop me, so i supposed they failed to brake. hence having to give up after about an hour of riding which was a shame.0

What happened - the fork mounts are alright are they?0 -
yeah the mounts are fine, its the caliper. i discovered about half way round that one of the pads wasnt moving, and was giving me massive rub, so i popped out the wheel, swapped the pads from 1 side to the other, and realigned the caliper. and then the lever just pulled back to the bar and the pads didnt slow me down atall.
so im going to give them another bleed once the kit i just bought turns up, and see if that solves it, and also have a look at fixing the stuck piston move again, and hopefully problem solved0 -
Taking pads out mid-ride... that must have sucked.0
-
to be honest, with the elixirs mine have always had problems, its really rare that they dont need an adjustment or 2 over the course of a ride, ahwell, hopefully their 4th bleed in 6 months will sort it out0
-
Damn.. sounds like a PIA.0
-
Has anyone read the article on the home page about the Ragley?
Would you folks rat eh the mmbop in the same way?0 -
i couldnt tell you. ive never been lucky enough to try an mmbop. however there are LOADS of them about in here so ull get loads of advice of the guys whove got em. if it rides like this does thou, then yes itll be a good ride0
-
good news. my bleed kit turned up whilst i was at uni today, just finished bleeding the brakes and they are tippy top again , nice to have brakes that brake again lol,
off back to swinley maybe tomorrow if i get al my work done, or if not, then next weds0 -
couple more pictures from swinley today. got the X.9 back on, brakes are working perfectly all round success.

hey,
just lookin for a new bike in the new year and startin to get really tempted by a blue pig but a little bit overwhelmed by the idea of choosing a set up and building it myself :? do u have any idea how much u have paid for your setup as it is? I love the look of ur bike and sounds like ur enjoying it!
Would be massively gratefull for any info/advice! ta x0 -
its been a really fun experience building it up and its taken abit over a year from the original saracan frame i started with. as for the money its been xmas and birthday presents, and then on top of that probably about £1300 or around that. for cheaper parts just look in the classified section on here, you can get some real bargins in there, thats where i got my forks.0
-
finally put the forks up to 140mm of travel, and fitted my new white superstar hose's. very happy with the look now now im just waiting for my new raceface cranks to turn up, darned royal mail.
