Winter clothing time, nearly.

Well nearly anyway.
I'm looking to ride longer this year, right through weather permitting, and need to update my clothing, esp for my feet.
I do all the usual stuff, Woolie Boolie socks, loose shoes, overshoes/socks, but either what I own is a bit rubbish, or my feet are particularly prone to becoming really really seriously frozen blocks of ice.
Anyway that is my main concern for riding through the winter, so any recommendations to improve my kit would be a great help.
Naturally gloves and caps too, but I can't stress just who cold my feet get!.

I bought neoprene overshoes last year. They provide extra insulation and keep all but the worst of the wind and rain out. Slight downside is they cut up quite easily and look bloody stupid. These are well worth it.

Cloth overshoes on the other hand are pretty rubbish. Don't waste your time.0 -

My feet are the same as yours - b**dy freezing in the cold.

Expensive yes but with room for a big pair of socks they work and they are still going strong after four winters. Probably paid for themselves by now in not having to replace overshoes / summer shoes !
Cheers

well i went out with a windproof jacket and 3/4 tights today, damn wind was cold.
i find keeping the core warm, and the legs, feet never seem to get that cold, in the cold winter a buff is good, but then i do have severe asthma so breathing in warmed air using the buff helps keep me warm..0 -
Buy some winter boots. Shimano or Northwave seem to be the best value for money
Sidi also do heated insoles which look very appealing but rather expensive, you can disposable heated insoles and other cheaper battery insoles on ebay

My feet also get very cold easily. I have some prendas windtec overshoes for the autumn but when it gets wet and windy I use Gore Overshoes. They are padded for warmth and have goretex outers. They are also easy to fit on/off. They were expensive, circa £50 but they allow me to enjoy my riding, ergo they are value for money in my eyes.

I've checked out Prendas, (cos I love those guys!!), and am heading that way, although I'm a little disappointed you don't wear them throughout the winter, Cam.0

could someone please post pictures of how one would dress for british autumn and winter. E.g., posting a complete pic and listing what is worn. I'm also on the verge of buying the winter kit.0

I wouldn't go all out to buy a whole new wardrobe!.
As said, my feet are agony, (I can't stand in the shower after), but my fingers are fine, the reverse is true for my mate. You could end up paying top dollar for stuff you don't need.
A pair of full length tights
Full finger gloves
Better socks
Everything else just needs covering when/if required.0 -

No they are not.
I might try the BBB overshoes - heard they are good. Main reason for not going for winter shoes is the state that my cheapo Lidl MTB shoes got into last year. Structurally they are fine but they look pretty manky due to the road oil/slush mixture that seemed to get thrown at them every day last winter.
I wouldn't hesitate to not recommend the Endura MT500s. They worked well as long as I darned them regularly - at least until the zip on one broke.Faster than a tent.......0 -

I found the windtex were not 100% waterproof and are fine for a few miles, but if you are out all day or it is hammering down then it has to be the Gore ones for me
