My beloved Assos shorts finally gave up a while ago as the back panel, just above the pad, went completley see through and I needed to replace them but could not justify spending £100+ on new ones.
As a big Shutt fan I ordered some of their standard. They came yesterday and I had my 1st ride today, I must say that these are a bit of a bargain, whilst they are not up to the same quality of the now expired Assos or the Shutt Pro shorts I have, they are very comfortable and look very classy, the pad is good and everything stays where it should. One thing I would say is that the sizing is Assos style snug so go for something larger if you are unsure.

Very good shorts for the money. Get in quick if you want some as they tend to sell out fast and then take up to a month to re-stock.

I always have to preorder things when I do into a clothing store. It's becoming frustrating. I'm 5'8", with ~36-37" chest and ~29" inch waist.
It seems stores either don't stock enough of small and medium sizes, small in particular. Or they simply bring in the same quantity of each size, hence the common sizes tend to get sold out rather quickly leaving the big sizes on the hangers.
Anyhow, I'm waiting for a size small to try out these bibshorts. Can someone please post more photos of innards of the shorts.0 -
There's some here for you.

there's also a review here from the same blog.

Hope this shed's some light on them for you. We've just had a big batch back in stock too.0 -
I have a pair and have to say that i don't find them to be any more comfortable than some DHB shorts (not bib shorts), which i *think* were the same price-ish - although can't find them on Wiggle now...
Was just a little surprised that for how much nicer they look all round, particularly the pad, i thought / hoped they would be miles better.
Not sure that any at that price are going to prove a revelation though.0 -

Why not just buy XXXL, then get someone to make you angry?
You'll ride like a MOFO too no doubt when in green mode.

What are the "Pro Bib COOLMAX® Shorts" like from Shuttvr?0

Anyone able to compare the pad in the shutt vr shorts (both models) to the dhb finchdeans which I am currently wearing?Cervelo P3

Can't say I get the big fuss with the shutt vr shorts. I've got them and some dhb bib earnley shorts, which cost me similar, and I prefer to wear the dhb.0

Most of the fuss is about the Pro shorts though I've not tried the basic ones yet. For me one big benefit is that the Shutt stuff is made in the UK from UK made cloth - something which doesn't apply to much gear around. I doubt it applies to the DHB kit. Also, I doubt you can ring up Wiggle and ask them to do something bespoke for you for a few quid extra as you can with Shutt.
If you want the economy to recover, just about the only constructive thing you can do is support British manufacturing wherever possible.Faster than a tent.......0 -

I've also got both makes and prefer the Shutts - down to personal preference I guess.

I've got both finchdeans and the VR coolmax, and the latter are that little bit better. The pads seem to be of equal thickness and firmness but the fitting and positioning of the Shutt is better. I've done a couple of six hour rides without noticing them at all. The finchdeans can take about 4 before I get uncomfortable. THe only problem I have with the Shutts is that the straps can get a bit hot during the summer. That said, they're the best shorts I own (also have a tenax, an Endura FS, a castelli and a couple of cheapies)0

Can anyone comment about general sizing with this brand, as I may buy a jersey and other bits/bobs from Shutt.
I am 40" Chest, 32" Waist and If I nip into Next or Marks'n'Sparks I am Medium all the way + 32" trousers with short leg.
With my current team jerseys/shorts I am Large and Med respectively. Is this likely to be the same with Shutt?
Cheers
MDCan I upgrade???0 -
MD - I am a 34-36" waist and the large in the shorts is the right size for me so would say the mediums will be spot on, As for the jersey, I am 36" ish chest and am right inbetween the medium and large (I have a couple of each) so a large should be right.
I would recommend giving them a call if you are not sure as they are a really nice bunch.
It really is great stuff, the sportswool jerserys are a bit of a revelation. And it's all British.Sunday September Ultegra SL

This is true - I've hardly worn my other jerseys since I got a Shutt sportswool - and that's despite the neck opening being too small for me so I can't do the zip up!! Going over to Shutt HQ at Ilkley tomorrow hopefully to get measured up so the ladies that do the stitching can make me one that is spot on. Ditto to get some bibs perfectly sized.Faster than a tent.......0 -
What size neck are you Rolf? I have had the same problem with the gilet not fitting my neck so interested if I may have the same problem with the jerseys.....?Cervelo P3

Put it this way - my neck isn't fat! I've got very little bodyfat so I was a bit surprised that the neck was a bit tight. I'm going to lend them a Santini top that is spot on and see if they can't match that size. I'll post back when I know moreFaster than a tent.......0

Same with me - size large gilet but I have a 17" collarCervelo P3

Same here on the Shutt neck sizing. Pete at Shutt advised me:
"The necks do stretch, there is a keeper thread stitched around that you can snap, it is not structural "
I also have the Pro Bibshorts, shorter in the leg than others, but really good.0 -

I agree with everything Rolf says.
I just spent 11 days cycling in Italy wearing the summer jersey and the pro bibs with the coolmax padding. Hadn't cycled more than 20km in them before but was doing 70 to 90km a day in very hot temperatures. Both wonderfully comfortable, wicked well etc. Really lovely kit. My youngest son has drawn all over the top with a bic pen and i cant quite get the ink off so will have to buy another!0 -
can someone comment on the lengths of the shorts? apparently they've been titled Sean Yates-style shorts.0
-
They're shorter than most but I wouldn't say they're proper Yates style. Perhaps an inch or two shorter than my tenaxes? I honestly don't notice the difference.0
-
They are bit shorter than the Pro's, I did'nt notice it either, only when I looked down and could see the tan line from my pro's, will be more careful next year ;-)Sunday September Ultegra SL

Eek, I had not noticed the Yates reference. Just ordered two sets and a jersey.
So will have to choose between legs being Brown - White - Black, or be a t@rt and go for Brown - Fake-Tan-Orange - Black.
Its not an easy choice.

Edit, or wait for it to get a little colder and wear some leg warmers - sortedCan I upgrade???0 -
Just received a number of excellent quality Shutt products in super quick time (ordered yesterday - arrived today - great service Shutt!!)
The bib shorts are great - keeping those.
As I am 40" chest I ordered a large jersey - as this seems to fit in with the sizing chart on their web site.
The jersey however while it fits across my shoulders is a much baggier fit around my chest and particularity stomach area than I expected, and much wider than my poly team shirts.
So should I send it back and get a Medium? sizing chart says Medium is 86 to 96cm (34" to 38" - bit of a wide range)
Also - is this "Sportwool" likely to shrink or sretch after repeated use/washing (I know the official line is - neither btw, but...)
Cheers,

Did not realise that they do alterations, when I get rid of my gut I will have to get my kit up to them to re-size.

Good shorts, but I don't like wearing mine despite them been perfectly good, they're so revealing I might as well ride in the nude and it's a shame they're good shorts0

Its probably my mistake. I did speak to a guy on the phone - It may well have been Pete. We got cut off and he left me a voicemail message told me to buy the Medium jersey. Fool that I am I checked their web site for sizing info (that said Large), posted here for a second opinion (also opinion was Large) so I ordered the Large. Idiot.
How much do these jerseys stretch.
There is no question I love the jersey. But I don't want it flapping in the wind. Can I upgrade???0 -
Hats off to Shutt.
Spoke to the lady on reception and without being asked she offered to send a medium jersey so I could check that against the large. Then I just have to send the one I don't want back to them.
I would really recommend this company. The quality and style of the products are great and they have a real good attitude and customer focus. Its nice to see this day and age.
I'll be buying from them again.Can I upgrade???0 -
And now they are doing standard, non bib, shorts for £25. I really don't need another pair but I really need the new rain cape especially if it really is windproof, waterproof and breathable as I have yet to find something that really is all 3 without spending mega bucks, may have to start getting my pay cheque sent straight to Shutt.Sunday September Ultegra SL
