This probably ought to be an 'obsolete parts' section!

I have a 2003 Marin Mount Vision fitted with Rock Shox SID Team forks (dual air) - they were fitted when I bought it new. I've always struggled with set up and as a result have probably not used the bike as much as I would have liked to. I used it in the Lake District yesterday and just found I was bouncing off everything - no real damping present. The forks seem to compress and rebound pretty well when pushed but when riding just seem far too hard. I'm pretty heavy and am using the factory recommended settings - I've tried 20psi less but don't want to go much lower. Has anyone any previous experience of these forks - did they work for you? The forks were serviced 12 months ago and have had little use since.

I know Marin changed to a Fox fork in 2004 but that was a change to 100mm travel and the frame was changed to facilitate that. I'm open to buying a new/previously loved fork if that gets me happy with the bike again!

How much travel are the SIDs and the Marin? If I were you an investment in an F100 or similar will totally transform your ride completely. You will probably never get close to that performance level no matter what you do with your 2003 SIDs.

The SID's are 80mm, the Marin frame geometry was tweaked in 2004 (one year after I bought mine) to accommodate 100mm travel - is my understanding. However, I'm sure many people has run 100mm forks and beyond on an 03 or earlier Mount Vision.
