I am thinking of buying a new bike this winter and I saw the Ribble Scuro RS. Has anyone any idea about this frame ? Is the t800 Toray Carbon any good ? or is it just cheap composite ?

  • Toray make a lot of carbon for a lot of brands and is considered very good quality. However as in most things it's the skill in laying the fibres up etc which determines a good frame

It's made by Dedaccai, so it will a great frame and fork. Ribble by the frame and fork and get it sprayed up and branded as their own.

At the moment I am riding a Giant TCR Advanced , do you think I would be down grading if I changed my bike for the Ribble Scruro RS ?
  • My brother won a road race and got numerous top 6 placings and went up to 2nd cat this year on his Scuro - he loves his.

  • I wondered if anybody knows how much the seat clamp of the Scuro RS weights?

Tough call, what year is the Giant?

If it's a 2009/10 model then probably not really noticable, money might be better spent on wheels or a coach (probably best option for all of us) etc, if older then I would say yes, but I haven't ridden the scuro RS but I have done lots of research and they good reviews, and look great which would be good enough for me.

you might want to read this, apparently Dedaccai frames are used by some pro teams, rebadged of course.

My Giant is a 2009. I am really happy with the frame but I could do with 1 size bigger (M/L)
So I am thinking of selling it and buying the Ribble.

Used in the Pro Tour under a different brand. Won a stage at the Giro this year I think.

So can't be that bad

Looked very nice when I was in the shop. Just cheaper because of the branding

I think you will struggle to get a better frame at that price point.

Toray are the largest manufacturer of carbon fibre in the world. They make the fibre for the wings of the Airbus A380 and the Dreamliner.

They also make very specialist fibres that the far east factories use to make a whole host of frames.

Very happy with my Scuro RS.

Note that there is a "Super Scuro" out for 2011...

    http://www.dedacciaistrada.com/en/superscuro.htm

I bet Ribble will be carrying this when it is released. Looks like Deda will be marketing the super scuro alongside the Scuro RS rather than replacing it, so it'll be interesting to see how the pricing goes, i.e. whether the RS drops in price or the super is priced towards the higher end of the market.

The super has internal cable routing, carbon rear dropouts and a shorter headtube. Judging by the similar weight, materials and identical fork I'm guessing that it will otherwise be rather similar to the RS.

Anyone know when the Super Scuro will be on sale or if its already on sale where and price etc ?

    Thanks

Looks like Dedacciai branded Super Scuro frames are for sale now from a couple of French retailers, but they are quite expensive...

It will be interesting to see if they will be available from 3rd party retailers for much less, like the Scuro was. I notice that Ribble don't seem to be advertising the Scuro any more in their magazine ads, and although it is still available on the website I guess that is last year's stock? They also seem to have quite a few other models now, so I wonder if they will be doing the Scuro (or Super Scuro) in 2011.

Maybe Dedaccciai are trying to go up market and will restrict sales of unbranded frames in 2011? (or maybe not). They can't have sold many of their own branded frames in the past when they are so much more expensive than the same frame from 3rd party manufacturers.
