I'm quite impressed how my stars have aligned on this one:

1. Thursday and Friday is Eid, the big Muslim holiday.

2. Friday is also the start of the Tour of Britain.

3. Because I teach in a school full of Muslims, I get Thursday and Friday off.

4. The first climb of Friday's stage is a pleasant 15 mile ride from my house.

5. Allah Akbar!

Wow thats amazing - just think on Thursday you can read up on the teams, Friday, hmmm you can drive too Blackpool to watch the teams being presented and drive home again.

Then on Saturday when the tour starts you can join us all spectating in the trough of bowland, when you would have been off anyhow.

    :lol::lol:

I hope you work Christmas & Easter to make up!
Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.

Could it be because you're a narrow minded bigot who is paranoid about seeing anything to do with the moslem faith. (And fwiw I'm umpteenth generation white, agnostic and British)

Because you're a hand wringing Guardian reader?

No offence, but if you can't see that that was obviously light hearted then I worry for your sense of humour. Presumably if the OP was a bad racist, he wouldn't be teaching in a school with a large number of Muslim pupils.

    Because he misspelled Allahu Akbar?

Or because he said 'school full of Muslims', rather than the presumably inaccurate/misleading Muslim school. (I imagine it's a secular state school in an area with lots of Muslims, rather than a specifically Islamic school).

    Oh well.

I think you have the answer.

Just stumbled back across this thread. Hardly remember posting on it to be honest. I think the time may be a bit of a give away.

Having a bit of a laugh at some of the extreme reaction. Glad I could be of service in allowing one or two to vent their spleen a little.

To the OP, clearly nothing wrong with your post. Sorry, don't know what I was on about. Wish I had Thurs, Friday off. Might even be worth reading a bit of scripture for.

Am intrigued as to the implication of 'good' racism however. In a non guardian, paranoid, bigoted, handwringing kind of way you understand.

Imagine it in my Warrington accent as being the same as being a "bad meff" or a "bad c0ck" etc. I was trying to make fun of the idea that being a racist is the highest of all crimes that seems to have grown up. To my mind, if you shut yourself off from a large section of the worlds population because they look different to you, then you're just incredibly stupid rather than evil.

True! I'm not at all racist. In fact I'm one of the "hand wringing Guardian readers" that someone was complaining about

    Spot on.
    Because he misspelled Allahu Akbar?

    Yes I did. Apologies.

    No problem.

I'll get one of the kids you recommend a good passage for you. Something about "casting the first stone" :D:D:wink:

I should add, I said "full of Muslims" because EVERY student is Muslim, mostly Pakistani heritage.

Well, there are 3 white kids...

    ...but they're from Kosovo :D
