Well it's nearly that time of year when the student loan comes into grasp. Fortunately my friend is trying to spend it for me.

He has got a pair of these; unused. With Continental Sprinters on.

Is it pointless putting this set of wheels on a '09 Focus Cayo 105, replacing RS10's?

Will I feel a huge difference going from my clinchers to these tubs?

Are these wheels too good for the bike?

How much should I offer, realistic please?

The bike in question.

I would only buy them if you intend to race.
  • Thanks Nap.

I think I will get them; I've been wanting to better the wheels for a while and it seems now is the opportunity to do so.

I will be joining my first club in Sept having done a few local chain gangs and enjoying them.

You've got to ask yourself where you will be doing the majority of your riding.

If its all hilly then why go for deep? Use the money to go lightweight!

+1 for Nap mentioning racing though.

I'd (personally) look at Mavic Kysriums or similar, maybe even the Karbona Falcons or Halo Mercurys. Great wheels for the money, nice and light.. and you can always do as I did with the Mercurys last year... Get some aero spokes fitted.

You can have your cake AND eat it! There are deep section wheels out there that are still very light. I have some Wheelsmith carbon 50mm section wheels with CX Ray spokes that weigh less than 1400gr

I have some and love them.

If you don't like them you could always sell them on ebay where they go like hot cakes. They are out of stock on the Planet X website as PX are introducing new stock with the new rubbish logo on them so you will have plenty of takers should you find they are not for you.

I found that these wheels made a big difference. I had never used tubs before and found them really smooth.

  • Brilliant guys.

    Now to negotiate the price.

I wonder if he will be kind enough to let me have them a week early. Pending payment.

    Mates rates.

Its the tubs that will cost. I doubt you'll be racing now til next season now - why buy now and have them sit around for the next 5 months or so ?
