My Aeron

Our postman told me that this little beauty was for sale! Two years later I have almost got it how I want it...
Specs:
Frame is Aeron TR made by Ridley
Fork is 4ZA
Rims are Open Pro
Spokes are butted stainless aluminum nipples and eylets
Hubs are Ultegra
Skewers are Ultegra
Tires are Schwalbe Ultremo R1
Brakes are Ultegra
Front dérailleur is 105
Rear dérailleur is 105
Crankset is 105
Chain is 105
Cassette is 105 (I think!)
Bars are Ritchey somethings
Stem is Ritchey something - modded
Seatpost is FSA SLK carbon
Saddle is Fizik Pave
Tape is Fizik stitched suede
Headset is FSA something
Cage is blackburn Stainless 4mm
Bottle is Camelbak with blue stripes obviously...
Computer is Cateye double wireless
One of the perks of being a CAD designer, I can design my own gear if I want to
One of me using it, sadly my ate chopped my head off in the picture
I want to change my shifters, do I get Ultegra or 105? Also, on shifters, mine look to be in a weird position but I do like them where they are and I do not find them all that comfy when they are higher up the bars in a more traditional position. Recommendations?
Anyway, I hope you all like my bike because I love it

Can't see the pics as I am at work, but I had one of these for a short while. Not bad at all for the money!
EDIT: Seen the pics. WTF is going on with the shifters? :shock:0 -
I dunno, I just find them quite uncomfy any other way. I do have quite long hands but they are not that long. What angle should the brake levers be at normally? Vertical?Road Bike; http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12727419

The top of the bars should be level with a smooth transition to the hoods of the shifters, like this -
However, if you find it uncomfortable...0 -
what do you call the extension you added to the metal unit that holds the handle bar in place?0
-
Thank you mr Dynamite. Ill try them like that when I put the new ones on.brucebanner wrote:what do you call the extension you added to the metal unit that holds the handle bar in place?
I call it the Dunkatron. Haha, erm no name really, its just a bracket I had LASER cut and welded on to the stem cap
So is it to be 105 or Ultegra shifters peeps?Road Bike; http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12727419

I would have had one of those but I only had that thing made because my computer bracket kept slipping off as it was mounted on the tapered part of the bars. The other advantage of having one like mine is that the computer is dead central to the stem, very poseur.Road Bike; http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12727419

You'll look like Sean Yates with your brake levers mounted like that...

To be fair they look like they're a bit too much the other way. More of an upward transition!
DMClite's Litepseed Siena looks pretty much how they should be (for reference).0 -
I set my bars where they are comfotable in the drops, then put the shifters on as appropriate, as instructed by my bikefitter/coach...0

Theres nothing wrong with that! but I think Ill try them higher up on the bars when I get my new ones.Road Bike; http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12727419

Sorry there chap, I wasn't implying there was anything wrong with your setup, put the levers where their comfortable for you. It's your bike after all0 -

Yeh i'm not having a go. Just making the point that that if he's gonna use a pic as a guidline, it's probably not a great idea to use your set-up because it's almost polar opposite.
Better to start in a 'neutral' position and then tweak it from there.
Dunk- it's not unusual for people to have a slight tilt on their hadlebars or lever position, just experiment as much as you can until you find the right combination or bar tilt and lever position for you.0 -
On the shifters, i used to run Sora shifters on my first road bike, and it's almost a necessity to have them at that angle, cus the thumb shifter bits are ridiculously impossible to use if the shifters are placed "normally"

So I got DuraAce shifters. The lord himself knows I dont need em but when its a good deal its a good deal yeah?Road Bike; http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12727419

You have confused me!
It may look different in the pic I don't know, but the hoods flow straight from the bars, they don't rise up from the bars... :?0 -
They do rise up from the bars. Nothing wrong with that though. Personal preference, you obviously like to be sat a little more upright than Sean or the op.0
-
The shifters look like they're fitted correctly on the bars but the bars themselves look like they're angled down0
-
To be fair, i had a little go on dunk's bike a little while back, and although i found the shifters a little weird a first it was a really comfortable and it seems to work for him0
-
Who gives a monkeys how the bars/shifters are fitted. If it's comfortable and you can reach the brakes that's all that matters. Sean Kelly's set up looks odd, but then I don't think anyone on this forum could keep up with him even now.Specialized Venge S Works

I designed a stem for my mountain bike but I never had it made after some guys on the MTB forum told me how I didnt know what I was doing
I do want a new design project but Im struggling for ideas, spacers, top caps and seat clamps are a bit simple really. Any ideas would be welcome as I love foreigners! I was contemplating a set of QRs but they would probably be rather expensive.Road Bike; http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12727419

Can I haz DuraAce?
Oh yeah and blue cables. and I also 'super-polished' the stem cap and gave it a heavy lacquer coat to match the Shimano gear.
Postman says I need a longer stem, any thoughts on that?Road Bike; http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12727419

I love foreigners... I haven't heard that phrase in ages!
I was a British Steel (since Corus, now TATA) apprentice in the early
eighties and the training instructors were always giving us 'foreigners' to do -
bits for cars, motorbikes, tool repairs etc - all in the name of 'improving our skills'!
Notable 'homers' I recall for myself was making a sleeve in Duralumin to adapt a 1" quill
flexstem to fit in a 1&1/4" Cannondale tandem headset and a clamp from random alloy
fit old Scott AT4 bars to my stem.
aah........happy days; do any work for home now and the buggers will sack you
like a dog (still there, 30 years and 2 months after joining as an apprentice, but who's counting?)If Wales was flattened out, it'd be bigger than England!

Orange Alpine 160 for Afan,Alps & dodging trees
Singlespeed Planet X Kaffenback for dodging potholes

I factor out position of levers when it comes to my own bike set-up, and simply do what a lot of the pro's do:-
Place a rule or other straight edge against the underside of the bars at the very end of the handlebar. Set the levers so the tip of the brake lever just touches the straight edge.0 -
Nice greenhouse0

PRB007 yeah, seriously, I know a great machine shop. They are saints! they have done a mod on that bracket for me more recently. pretty nice stuff.
Berk Bonebonce Ill do that when I re wrap my bars. I dont thing they are dead level probably about a degree or so off.
