hi,

ive got an SLX double/ bash and a blackspire stinger. i couldnt get the chainline perfect so got it as near as i could and have been riding it for a while now. ive finally had enough of the chain rubbing on the side of the stepped roller and im trying to sort it.

it looks as though i need to put another spacer between the chainset and the stinger about 1.5/ 2mm should do it, but is it safe to run another spacer in there?

its a 68mm shell, ive got a single 2.5mm spacer on NDS, one 2.5mm spacer on the DS (and the stinger - another 2.5mm) which is whats recommended on shimanos website. i know its only another 1.5mm, but i want to make sure theres enough BB in the frame!

cheers

If you put an extra one in there, the left hand crank wont have proper purchase on the axle, and you'll kill the splines.

The HTII LXs on my singlespeed ran for ages with all the spaces on the driveside, to correct a chainline issue, with no problems. I'd give that a go, but also point out that it is not what you're supposed to do :)

Is there no more adjustment in the chain device? That's normally a safer part to adjust/attack with a grinder.

no adjustment what so ever. its a BB mount blackspire stinger.

so if i were to add a 1.5mm spacer to the drive side, and then replace the non drive spacer with a 1mm instead of the 2.5 thats there at the moment then i should still have the same spacing between the cups and also will have moved the chainset out?

Yeah, so long as the total width of spacers stays the same, you'll be fine as far as the axle is concerned.

Just don't go too far over what Shimano say is the maximum amount of spacers - pulling a BB cup out of a frame is neither cheap nor pretty :)
