If they could only arrange a new frame for me. That would be something already. Otherwise I am not sure what to do. All the equipment is in perfect condition and frame from the same manufacturer would be just straight swap of everything. Other than that I have it covered on my home content insurance but I am sceptical about things like that having have experience with car insurers. You claim on damage for £350 and then you are paying for it in your increased premium for the next 3 years or more which total to more than they paid you out!.

After four years there is virtually no chance of them giving you a new frame. I'd buy a cheap aluminium frame with similar fitting sizes and swap the bit on.

I am just hoping they can arrange new frame for me to buy as they don't sell these frames on its own I think.

+1 (27.2mm seatpost and 31.8mm clamp and front mech from memory!)

They do sell frames for service, but as the rest of the stuff is 4 years old and Halfords spares are ruddy expensive I'd suggest getting something elsewhere like Merlin.

    Hi guys,

    Just to update you....

Called Halfords yesterday explained everything, and then visited Brixton branch (London) on suggestion from the helpdesk. Spoke there with the manager and man....... what a great guy! Just looked at the frame (I didn't even finish talking explaining what'd happened) and he just started ordering brand new frame for me!!! Can you imagine? 2.5 years after my warranty expired. But he said I can see the frame is mint so it wasn't ridden almost at all and that kind of damage is impossible to happen form whatever happened to me (he said the front wheel is fine so that proves is was not a serious crash).

    I'm so happy!!

Noting that although it's out of warranty, the Sale of Goods act still aplies.......

Sale of Goods act still applies but I have already experience with it and it's not as good as it sounds. It's not that straight forward like just taking the bike to the shop and telling them that product wasn't fit for purpose. It’s me who has to now prove that the bike left factory with defect on the frame. To do that I would have to get independent opinion from I don’t know who (material specialist or don’t know), I would have to pay for it, in a lot of cases people/specialists don’t want to carry out that kind of inspection, etc….. so no….. I wouldn’t rely that much on Sale of Goods act.

Even if it applies here it’s just a lot of hassle.

Well like any law that requires private action, a retailer can ask you to prove your case by taking them to court.
