Re-grease hubs

I've got a squeeky hub under load (doesn't squeek when i I just spin it).

I was wondering if i can just loosen the cones and get some more grease in to see if that solves the problem?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Presumably you mean for a complete service, replace bearings etc...

I was hoping to not take them completely apart in case i cant get them back together...

  • You shouldn't need to replace the bearing.

You only need to remove one side of the cones and lock nut. You want to keep one side on to aid centering so you get the same distance each side.

Just make sure you put the bits back as the otherside and you can't really go wrong.

Clean everything up and regrease and you're away.
  • you sure its the rear hub not bottom bracket or pedals as these often creak/squeak when under load

I think the squeak is the front hub, but could be pedals/bb I suppose.

I'll see if greasing the hub solves the problem and if not, work my way along the bike.
