I'm going on holiday to Umbria in Italy in a few weeks time and I was wondering if anyone knows of any decent (road) bike hire places as I can't take my bike with me.

Any suggestions of decent routes around Umbria would be greatly appreciated too.

as far as routes are concerned check out bikeumbria.com. The site may also have information on bike hire.

Also you probably won't go far wrong if you follow the scebic roads shown on the Michelin or Touring Club Italia maps.

Oh and don't rely on it being oh - temperatures in the teens here in the north today.

I've toured around in Umbria a bit (brilliant place for cycling).

A writeup (old) here that might give you some ideas...

The area around Todi/Orvieto/Bolsena is great. If you get down to Bolsena, do visit Pitigliano (it's just in Tuscany). Very impressive.

I've emailed a friend of mine who lives in Tuscany to see if he knows of any bike hire places in Umbria. Will let you know if he comes up with anything.

    Cheers... Allan

    Just had an email back.

This place hire bikes in Umbria (near Perugia). They do touring, mtb and road bikes.

    They'll deliver and collect too.

    Cheeers... Allan.

Most bike hire is mountain bikes or 'city bikes' - if you're looking for a high end racing bike then you're probably going to struggle.

Here's a list of the bike shops in Umbria:

I suspect that your best bet will be to try the shops in the main cities - Perugia, Foligno and Terni. Your best bet is going to be to drop them a email - there's a good chance someone speaks English but in addition to English you could always try something like:

Sarebbe possibile noleggiare una bici di corsa per [x] giorni? Quanto costerebbe?

(would it be possible to rent a road bike for [x[ days]. How much would it cost?

Here are the results of the Google.it search with the key words 'noleggio bici'

    These guys have Specialized Sirruses:

But if you want a 'nice' bike you're probably going to have to take your own.
