Would be for general use, not TT or racing etc. Live in quite a hilly area.

Any thoughts appreciated, ta.

Fulcrum Racing 3 2 Way Fit. I have them on two bikes and they are excellent. Reasonably light, very strong and they roll beautifully.

I like my Easton EA70's, great all round wheelset, strong too.
  • Thanks folks - what prices are we talking about for the above (and where)?

Merlin cycles tend to have great prices on road wheels. Many have suggested Shimano Dura-ace 7850-CL as a fab all round wheel set. Within £1 of your budget on Merlin as are last year's Fulcrum Racing 1's.

Merlin have the Dura Ace at £529 but with 10% discount in the basket so £476. Great wheels at that price
  • £476.95 at Merlin at the minute, there having a "discount accumulator sale", way out of my league unfortunately!

Depends if you are Campag or Shimano.

I love my Campag Shamals and you can easily pickup a virtually new pair off Fleabay or even new for that price.

I had the misfortune to have dura ace wheels after 1500 miles they sounded horrendous! The creaking was loud and embarrasing in the extreme. Have now got a refund and will NOT be getting another pair.
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.

You can fit Shimano freewheels to Campagnolo wheels. :P

Plus I get the VAT off bringing them down to £412.00 :D

I always feel guilty when I don't buy from my LBS but at that price I'd be mad not to.

You should definitely be able to pick up a pair of Campagnolo Eurus for £500 if you shop around. Basically the same as the Fulcrum Racing 1s and a significant improvement on the Racing 3s. For some reason the Fulcrums seem to be selling for a tiny bit more than the Campagnolos, despite being effectively the same wheels.

As said above, you might just manage to get some shamals (=Racing zeros) for that price or a little more, but now that the 2009 wheels are mostly sold out and the 2010 ones seem to be the same as 2011, they tend to be going for a little more, even on ebay.
