TV news reporter talking to "Alcohol" adviser...
Interviewer: "So, should alcohol be kept to 45p per unit?"
Alcohol Expert - employed in the Booze Industry - "No, that will punish people on low incomes."
ERM....aren't these the twots that are getting pissed/legless and kicking the crap out of anything that moves on weekends?
Good call Batman...NOT!

have you not watched jeremy Kyle0 -
what wrong with 45p per unit?? :?"It is not impossible, its just improbable"
Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc 080 -
Don't have to watch Kyle's prog, just go to any Accident/Emergency dept after 10pm.
Low lifes/chavs, totally out of it on booze, the cheap stuff they drink BEFORE going out.
Mrs has been a nurse for over 25yrs, so has seen it all....
Colleagues been assualted, as well as her.
One twot tried to smash a fire-extinguisher into a Drs head!
So, yes, tanked up Low Pay/Low Life scum...the scourge of NHS A + E, Police, Fire Service..0 -
I work in hospital. Don't try and use that bullshit to justify a completely sweeping generalization. You cannot say that ALL violent alcohol fuelled crime is from people on low income. You get twats that cant handle their drink no matter how much they earn.0
-
then ban alcohol!!!!!
no wait, it's perfectly acceptable because it's a nice taxable drug
but i agree, it's not always low paid/low income people. there's idiots no matter how much money they have0 -
To be honest the worst are the 20-30's bloody binge drinkers0

You're right. I'm always sh!tfaced and violent and I'm a City Banker with a huge bonus.
However, when I'm in A&E on a Saturday night, I am usually surrounded by chavs.0 -

.....and are therefore unlikely to be seeing a rise in the price of their wine when the alcohol duty goes up. It's the alcohol currently sold below 45p per unit that will be affected, i.e. the chav fighting-juice rather than the Champagne.0 -
Sooner or later though, the chavs will realise they can make 5 gallons of cider with a £10 kit from Wilkinsons. No tax, but 120 units worth of alcohol for £10.0

And you'll be welcome!
Just stay away from Lisbon, it's a beautifull city, but it's getting crowded, stressful and more violent. I worked there for almost 2 years and swore it was enough. The only time that it's enjoyable is in August when 90% are away on vacations (most of them here in the Algarve...) :?0 -
It won't stop the hard core piss heads but it might help some people realise how much they're drinking and perhaps increase the decline of the pub trade. When you can buy 3 ltrs of wine in tesco for £10 or 3 cases of beer for £20 in tesco/asda/morrisons etc it's not difficult to see why there's such a problem.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

Yes, simple to see. Some people are f@cking idiots. It's as cheap for me as it is for them, but I don't roll around pished in the gutter on a Saturday night, fouling myself and getting picked up by an ambulance and taken to A&E to waste the hard-earned taxes paid by the 'normal' people who can control their lives and be a benefit to society.0 -

What makes you think they don't drink the cheap stuff0 -

I'm not saying any normal person does, a normal person doesn't drink 3 crates of beer of 4 bottles of wine. If somebody does drink that much then they should pay more as they're the people who do throw up, fight and end up in A&E. I like a drink and will either spend money on a decent bottle of wine or a few beers in the pub, my costs won't go up, but those of the belmers who start fighting on the local seafront or outside the shops before having a go at anybody daring to walk past will. As for the CoL there'll always be belmers there, I've escorted enough to K&C after a night in Dover St.Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

i hadnt thought of that, 90p pintsin pubs will dfinately save the brewing industy i would say.
in fact, round it up to a quid and i reckon we are on a winner.0 -
It was £2.50 a pint of the "Black Stuff" in Dublin, 1987.0

I am a non drinker, however...
I find alcohol provided me with the best entertainment ever when I went to Stoke Hospital A&E at 10PM on a Saturday night (to get my ear patched up after clipping a tree on the Monkey Trail)
Well, you couldn't make the sh¡t I was seeing up, seriously. Everything from street brawls to beaten wives. All alcohol related.
45p/unit is a small price to pay to watch that type of entertainment. Beats any reality TV hands down0 -

Cardiif City Council Social Club, was 50p a pint for years.
Closed now due to...losing money.
Well, I never.0 -
At Wetherspoons real ale is less than £2.00 a pint. I'll pay those prices all day to have a drink made the traditional way that actually tastes of somethingBianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
