Is the brake fluid supplied with the official Avid bleed kit DOT 4 or 5.1...? And which is recommended for Juicy 5's?

Thanks :)

  • Either will work fine and mixing does not seem to cause any problems either.

My Elixirs state DOT 4 or 5.1.

The best two fluids are Silkolene Pro Race 2000 or AP 600 and both are widely available at motorbike shops. The difference between these and normal car brake fluids is enormous.

Both must NOT be used with magnesium callipers but are fine with Avid aluminium callipers.

Expect a lever so firm it feels like its broken.
