Any one timed their self round the follow the dog and monkey trail? So far me and a mate have managed 1.46 but that was with a couple of stops, doing the texhnical climb by the fire road hill and trying the rock garden a few times. Anyone got sub 1.30? I'm thinking of going up early on Saturday and doing a 'hot' lap!!!

*facepalm*
Timing yourself can only lead to *hot laps*, all the associated misery and get-out-of-my-wayishness.
Riding a trail for fun is a bit like sex, there isn't a prize for coming first.0 -
Wouldn't go that far. Just curious as to what I could do. And certainly wouldn't be screaming at people to get out my way0

Ive just literally got back from Cannock today- i did the monkey in 1 hr 28 mins, my first time under 1hr 30mins. Ive done it about 10 times or so now usually doing it between 1hr 35 - 1hr 45mins.
Im no race snake, i smoke, drink etc n im 15 stone so i bet loads of folks are doing sub 1hr 30mins!!0 -
Takes me about three hours. I find it difficult to tear myself away from the bench on Lower Cliff on a sunny weekday evening, just chilling and watching the buzzards circling over the woods.0

How long actually is the trail?
So i know ready for when i head up0 -
The Monkey is a 7-mile loop that starts from approx half-way along Follow The Dog, so say 15 miles if you do the whole thing.
Stay in Wales, it's crap0 -
I heard that it's all uphill and the tiny little descents are straight down fireroads.
In fact some say that it makes sherwood pines look like a top MTB destination.0 -
There are lots of hills but only 2 real long ish drags, on the plus side its great for fitness. Ive not ridden lots of places but the Monkey trail certainly does the job for me.
Cannock seems to get a lot of abuse, i dont see why? its not like you have to pay!!0 -

The Monkey trail is featured in this month's mbr. Quote: as a last hurrah, you descend one of the craziest descents we've found on UK shores. They also liked the climbs0

Yarp but MBR talks crap about fun trails reads like it's written by a bunch of 90 year olds0
