Kona Dew 2009 Hybrid, rear frame & disc brakes.

I've just bought my first proper bike, the Kona Dew 2009 Hybrid in preparation for completing a Coast-Coast ride early next year which I drunkenly agreed to.
I like the bike, but for the trip in question I'll certainly need a rear frame for panniers but obviously I have no idea what I'm doing just yet with regard to fixing and tweaking the bike, so could someone advise whether it's possible/easy to fit these and possibly recommend something suitable for a three day ride during which we will be camping?
Also, at some point I'd quite like to fit disc brakes to the bike, but I'm not sure if this is possible?

Standard rack will fit, as long as you have eyelets near the wheel skewer. As for brakes that'll be expensive and difficult, how come you didn't get the Dew Drop? More comfy with drops plus it has disc brakes already

The main reason I got the one I did (Kona Dew 2010 - it's the 2010 not the 2009 as it happens) was the price. I'm not keen to spend an absolute fortune on something that at this point I'm not 100% sure I'll get into on a regular basis, however much I'd like to think I will at the moment.
The brakes are something I'm probably going to look at in the future, the cost isn't a massive issue because by the time I'm forking out for it I'll know I'm going to continue cycling, and with regards to difficulty; as long as it will actually fit I think I'll be okay to muddle through. From what I heard from some cycling colleagues though, whether or not the brakes can be changed is dependant on the frame itself, which is something I'm not familiar with (yet).

To upgrade from V to disc, you will need new wheels, new brake and gear levers and possibly a new frame and forks. At least I think so. If I'm correct that's a new bike..

Christ, sounds like a big job then. If the forks & frame need changing then it's not worth bothering with I don' think, but if it transpires that I just need new wheels & the garb for the brakes themselves then I might look at that sometime next year.

Have a look on your frame and forks if it has mountings for disc brakes. It'll be on the left side. The Dew Deluxe has disc brakes so see if yours is the same frame/forks, if so you're in luck

From the picture in your link it has tabs for disc brakes front and rear (international standard) so you will need the brakes+new wheels.

You also have tabs etc for a rack.

Ah right spotted them. Are the gear shifters & brakes in one unit? I remember some are, some aren't. Did a search for Shimano 486 so make it to Dew Deluxe spec

Superb, that puts it back into the realm of something I can look at either when I'm bored and have some cash or the wheels actually need replacing.

Even better. I'd half assumed that most frames would be suitable for a rear rack but it's great to hear confirmation. The bike is delivered tomorrow, I'm actually excited!
