Garmin Edge 705 - Disappearing Map

Just picked up an Edge 705 road edition with Garmin Maps and for the most part very impressed with it all. But I keep running across a few problems when using routes on the map, namely the map on the SD card seems to disappear and I get left with the 'as the crow flies' red arrow to navigate me to my destination. Another problem is that the route when following turn by turn crashes which is very annoying mid way through a die.

Anyone experienced similar probs and knows a solution? Can I download routes and relevant part of the map to the unit itself. The instructions not that great!

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Nick

I downloaded my road OS map directly to the device from the Garmin web site. If I lose it, it is there within my profile for me to download again. Could it be the magnification you have it on is too great or your SD card memory is too small?

Either way contact the supplier or Garmin direct and they should sort it for you FOC

It's not an uncommon problem, it happens to me, if you look in the settings you will find that the normally checked/tick box/map definition is no longer there. I normally power recycle and it always comes back, have a search on the Garmin forums, it's been asked before, I don't think there is a solution, let me know if there is: https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21
  • thanks for the link, bit frustrating as it has happened a couple of times now and I have only used it a handful of times, when you shell out this kind of cash for something you expect it to work! Putting it down to teething problems at the moment

I have the SD card version of Garmin Maps, I thought this would be fine given that it comes on a 2gb card but now a bit annoyed you can't copy to the PC or Garmin website (as far as I know), even Garmin training centre doesn't pick it up. At least plenty of sites where you can route plan without this.

Would be great if I could upload at least routes with relevant map bits to the Edge unit directly.

What version of firmware do you have loaded?

Chances are you may need to upgrade the firmware and do a hard reset.

Latest version that actually works is V3.1, you may have V3.2 as they released it for a while before withdrawing it due to it causing more problems than it solved.
    Complicating matters since 1965
  • Yep, I'm running 3.2, spoke to Garmin and they've sent me 3.1 so we'll see if that resolves it, otherwise Garmin suggested it was hardware! So hoping that firmware fix will sort it out.
