    Makes sense.

For specialiZed, the extra impact of having Schleck as well as Contador is probably not worth the extra investment.

On the other hand, Trek know Schleck is more marketable than Contador*, and probably a little cheaper (plus, Contador is tied into specialiZed).

The rumour is the team will be called "Team Luxemboug" or some such. I read they were going to be on Trek yesterday.

5 sponsors if the rumours are correct.

Some 'brand management' consultant probably charged a hundred grand for that.

They came to me first but my suggestion of Team Goofball didn't go down to well.

Too bad, I was really hoping for a "real" team to ride Look bikes.

Most interesting thing? They're NOT using SRAM but Shimano Di2!! I think Andy likes the self-adjusting groupset! ;)

The highest bidder usually wins, although no doubt it'll be spun as Andy Schleck personally scouring the world for the ideal frame.

EBIT - you can smell the PR guff right away:
"We looked at a number of equipment suppliers, but our goals are to win the Tour de France and be the number 1 team in the world. Trek has the best equipment, along with more experience and expertise to help make that happen," directeur sportif Kim Andersen said in a statement.

Does this mean Trek are dumping the Shack?

Riding a Trek isn't going to help either Shlecks' descending ability, they go round corners in instalments.

No, impossible to imagine them leaving Armstrong and Co.

Yes, certainly I know relaxed angles and longer wheelbases of past models have been like that but not seen/measured any recent ones.

I would have agreed with you in the past but maybe Trek are worried about current investigation and the possible fallout of their bikes being associated with him and his team. They could also be looking to the likely future successes of Andy and the new team versus the OAPs day out that is Radishack.

There was a discussion on CN Forum where it appears that there appears to be a dearth of reference to Radioshack on the Trek website pending the Federal investigation - perhaps a 'damage limitation' exercise? I wonder if they're going to do a singlespeed special for Andy so he can't f*** up his gear shifts?

A shame as I thought the Spesh bikes were really nice (and I own a Trek). Definitely think the Spesh Shiv is one of the best TT bikes out there.

But yeah - at the end of the day they are all similar bikes and it;s about the rider. And how much he gets paid to ride the brand.

with this story and the fact that Phinney seems to be off to BMC does make we wonder if the Shack really are going to stick it out for the second year.

I wouldn't, they paid for LA who has a huge marketable value (even now) and they're not getting LA, they're getting his sidekicks. Regardless of the current LA situation, the sponsors are paying top dollar for the reserves. Add in the current situation and you'd be running away screaming.

I'd agree but doesn't Armstrong own a reasonable chunk of Trek? Or have I invented that?

Are you sure of that, it's news to me...any details, that would take some serious wedge!

i've read that before as well that LA owns part of SRAM. Not sure how much stake he has.

When The Shack was formed wasn't it known then that LA would only go on for one more year but the team was still formed for two ?

    From this velonews article:
    http://velonews.competitor.com/2010/04/news/lance-armstrong-becomes-part-owner-in-honey-stinger_113493

"Armstrong also has ownership stakes in SRAM, FRS and, although the arrangement is largely symbolic, Trek Bicycle."

I think he may have received stock in Trek as opposed to cash.
