I know its an old question with loads of variants, but lots of people still dont wear one.
Is a more expensive one neccessarily any better.

The old adage 'you get what you pay for' applies. With helmets it's in the comfort, style, fit and ventilation categories for the more expensive helmets. All helmets must meet minimum safety standards.
  • Make sure you try before you buy. Recently tried the Giro Prolight on and thought the fit was terrible! Might work for you though, but there's only one way to tell...

Just buy what fits well and you like the look of. No need to spend £100s on one.

Generally agree with this, but I just bought a Kask and the finish & comfort is head and shoulders above my Giro - e.g the retention system and faux-leather chinstrap make a real difference.

  • Recently bought two under £25, the strap on both of them broke, but that's probably more down to brand rather then the cost...
    Carrera Vanquish....

Sounds like it's down to a quality issue. Not fit for purpose.

+1. My last 3 helmets have all been Spcialized Chamonix's. I don't think I paid more than £30 for them. Light, good fit, well ventilated and IIRC passed more safety tests than the Specialized S works helmet costing almost four times as much.

Specialized no longer make them though and mines probably due for replacement soon......

+1 Love my Kask K-10. So comfy and very flexible with sizing.
