Can anyone tell me why a lot of dirt jump / street freeride buses don't have a front brake. Surely this is needed

    Mmm buses.

many jump/street bikes dont have brakes as they get in the way/get broken/cost money and the riders use their feet.

    Fashion.
  • partly what nicklouse has said, and partly because it isn't really needed. plus, it's a faff for barspins/tailwhips unless you route through the steerer.

fashion would be no brakes, copying a lot of street BMX riders.

No brakes is just fashion, and it's daft.

You don't need a front brake unless you need to stop in a hurry, which for dirt jumping, you don't really. It also gets in the way for barspins, tailwhips etc and it's just something else to go wrong when you bail (which you will, a lot)
