Dear All,

Last week on the way into work I was knocked off my bike by a rogue van.

Although I am now aching a lot I seem to have avoid any major physical harm. This also seems to be the case for my bike, which I have taken into my local bike shop for a check up.

My bike is a reynolds steel framed Genesis Equilibrium 2010 version and my question is what everyones thoughts are about frame safety after a collission such as this? Obviously I will listen the the thoughts of my local bike shop, however I just wanted to find out from anyone else who has been in a similar situation, their thoughts about re using a frame once it has been in an accident?

Your thoughts are most welcome.

B.

If there aren't any obvious dents etc then a steel frame should be fine. Unless, of course, it's an insurance job, in which case it's guaranteed to be beyond repair.

I'm afraid it's beyond repair. Buy a new bike :D

It's a steel bike, it'll almost certainly be fine, or at least fixable with a bit of brute force. My pompino has a large dent in the top tube and seems to be holding up well!
  • Cheers guys,

it sounds as though it's down to my conscience !

inspection will say if the frame is ok, but aren't the forks carbon? that's the bit i'd be nervous about after an impact
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • Sungod,

Thsat is a very good point I will confirm wit the bike shop that they have checked the forks as well as the frame.

    Cheers.
  • Did you get his details? You should at least get the cost of a full service and checkup paid for.
