Braking in the wet

My bike has Shimano Tiagra brakes and today out in the (very) wet they were next to useless and down right scary on descents. Is this normal for all brakes in severe weather, or will an upgrade to better brake pads be advised?

way worse in the wet than a car. Make sure they are adjusted properly(see you tube) and brake in good time

Kool Stop have salmon flavoured  pads supposed to be good for wet weather.

Yes I've heard they are good. Will they fit Tiagra callipers though?

I think they have various types, I do have Tekro brakes on my Campag bike and I believe they use standard Shimano brake blokes.

    Yours the same?

I've had no problem with those Kool Stops, although the long reach calipers don't offer as much stopping power as short reach calipers. Pretty useless in the wet tbh once I load up my bike.. been considering a disc brake tourer/cyclocross for my wet/commuter bike for this reason.

How old are your rims ? Some need a bit of wearing in ?

I had similar problems with my Sora brakes today. Trying to stop 15st 8lb downhill in the wet was 'interesting'
