is there really any point to em?
i havent ridden em , but i know what advantages they are supposed to give but does this out weigh the ball ache of set up?

    why?

    cost more.
    pain to set up.
    heavier tyres.
still have to carry tube just in case.

just so you can run lower pressure?

If done properly and methodically they are a piece of cake to set up.

Both bikes are set up tubeless with no issues setting up or running them.

Cost more - not really - both wheelsets had Stans tape fitted already so only the cost of the fluid.
Pain to set up - not at all - once mastered can set up a pair of wheels in almost no longer time that fitting a tube.
Heavier tyres - nope - both bikes run standard folding non-ust / tubeless ready tyres - Schwalbe (sub 500g tyres) and Kenda on the other

Still carry a tube but have never needed it and would have to carry one anyway so a non-issue

They're standard rims with a Stans conversion kit.

I think the leak is through a hole from where I pinched the tyre between rim and rock. No pinch flats me arrse!

Just so we're clear, the sealant leaked out of a hole in the tyre. Nothing to do with the rim or the bead/seal.

I've had that happen. Where I would normally have had a pinch flat, the tyre was damaged, so... much of a muchness really.
HOWEVER, in your case, I think it's clear that what's happened is your can of degreaser was enjoying some watersports with your bike.
Either that or they were having some kind of bukake party.

2 weeks ago, out for a ride.
stopped at a metal farm gate.
    opened said gate and psssshshhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

managed to perfectly hit the valve and shear it clean off!
1 in a million shot and stoopidest puncture of my life.

Right actually... there is no weight saving to be had if running tubeless.

How the hell do you hit precisely the valve on your wheel, with a farm gate, without causing any damage to the rest of the wheel?

Got a phone call the other day from my mate who's borrowed my tubeless equipped bike.
Apparently, a thorn punctured the tyre, and the sealant did nothing but spray him in his face

common issue whilst spannering in bike shop.
letting down a tyre for whatever reason and getting a come shot of fluid to the eye.
not in a good/kinky way either

    Trail fairies blessed me once..
Riding at New Fores, got a piece of broken off tree branch in the front wheel, it got caught on the fork legs and sheared the [Presta] valve off and the branch snapped. Not one damaged spoke! Talk about lucky..
