hi there,

The bearings on my rear hub are starting to go (wheel wobbles from side to side)
would it be cheaper to buy a new wheel - or get a new hub fitted?

is it possible to do this youself with a spoke tool - how hard is it?

thanks

Just rip the old bearings out and replace them, easy. If they are sealed bearings note their numbers , you can get replacements from bike shops or Ebay. Plenty of info on google about how to change bearings.

give the hub a service. i may just be lose cones and lock nuts.

but without any info it is impossible to say.

  • I've got the same problem, anyone know of any hub tutorials?
Lbs says my hub is ruined but wanted me to buy a v v expensive replacement- my Shimano hub has lasted two and a half years so want to replace with a strong yet value type hub. Haven't got the foggiest when it comes to mechanics of bearings hubs etc.
