SHIMANO 6700 compatibility

I currently have Ultegra SL as my groupset, but have damaged my rear derailleur in a crash. I have got a good price for a new 6700 derailleur, but wondered if there are any compatibility issues with my current set-up? I have read that the front 6700 derailleur only works with the 6700 STIs, so concerned that the same will apply to the rear. Anybody any knowledge before I buy it? Thanks

    The 6700 series rear mech is the one component that is DEFINITELY backwards compatible with other shimano 10 speed series(i.e. 5600, 6600 etc).

    In fact it is also 9spd compatible.
    I don't think you will find anyone else on this forum suggesting otherwise.....
