I bought myself a cube acid 2010 a few months ago and have been tearing up the country side pretty much non stop since it arrived. I've now decided I need a bash ring but to be honest i don't really know what I'm looking for. Can anyone enlighten me or recommend a decent one.

The Shimano SLX or Saint ones are good, I use both. Can't fault them.

Do you want to keep your big ring? if so then you options are pretty limited.

If you just want to ditch your big chainring and replace it with a bash then there are lots to choose from-the Raceface ones are slim, tough and look good too.

You will lose some of your higher gears if you go this route. If that is an issue for you then you may also want to change your middle ring for a bigger one at the same time to compensate for those missing gears.I'd recommend a steel Deore 36t middle ring if you do.The size bash you get depends on the size of your middle ring. A bigger one (36t) should work with 32,34 36 teeth chainrings but a smaller 32t will only work with a 32t chainring.

Loosening and then tightening the chain ring bolts can be a bugger but there is a tool that helps you grip the bolts while you tighten them which helps a bit.

If you've got cash to splash you could also get some coloured chainring bolts at the same time to complement your frame.
I actually run an SLX double and bash but have not actually seen the bash for sale on it's own. That would mean buying a complete chainset and checking it's compatible with your current bottom bracket.
I think the Saint bash needs special chainring bolts/spacers too.

These are both a lot bulkier looking than the Raceface type metal bash which I also have.
Remember to adjust your triple front mech limit screw after you've fitted your bash.
BTW I don't work for CRC but am happy to take any freebies from them for the above plugs!!

MRP XCG Triple chain device. Great piece of kit and easy to fit. See it here: http://www.tredz.co.uk/.MRP-XCG-Triple- ... _22899.htm

Also available in black. Check you order the right one, though; BB or ISCG mounted.

Be aware of this, though: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/forums/vie ... highlight=

Although, having posted that last thread, I have to say that the rubbing is only very slight, hardly noticable and only happens in the highest gear (which isn't used very often and when it is, not for long periods).
