Can any of you point me in the direction of a decent 3/4-length bib tight which comes down to just below the knee and *isn't* made of thermal fabric? I've searched through the stock of umpteen shops, but it's taking up hours of my time and I still can't find something suitable. Ta for reading.

The DBH Finchdean are certainly not made of thermal fabric.

That said, your legs will need to be pretty long for them to come below the knee!

Nalini ones on ebay for £40?
Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!

I've got a pair of Finchdeans. Good value for money, I think, but the fabric feels quite heavy and fleecy to me. Anyway, they definitely don't come to just below my knee! I'd like something a bit shorter (to make my tan lines slightly less ridiculous.) :D

Will check out the Nalinis on eBay just now. Thanks for the replies!

Asso do a Roubaix (thermal) version and a normal lycra version if your budget extends to those. I've tried them but cant remember exactly how long they are though.

I know Shutt have 3/4's coming in Sept IIRC but I believe these are a Roubaix style fabric.

The Endura 3/4 bibs get decent reviews. Was going to buy a pair next week for the autumn rides

+1 for the Assos with the excellent S2 Mille pad for the Roubaix ones and the Uno pad for the normal lycra. Expensive, yes of course but you're getting top quality for your money.

  • I have 'Gore Bike Wear Contest 3/4 Bib Shorts'. Everything besides the logo is fine. I wish I could scrape it off.

Monty, you might have bought the Finchdean brushed shorts rather than these:

I've a pair, and they are definitely below my knee (and I have LONG legs) and don't have any fleece backing. They're exactly what you're after

I've plumped for those as my long tights (the long version) for the winter. Look lovely.

The Assos bib knickers are great - I bought on discount, but having now used them, wouldn't hesitate to pay the full whack. They are that good. I doubt I will need to cough up any time soon though - they wear superbly and despite three years' hard use, are still looking really good. with years left in them. Well worth the money. A bargain in the long term.

This is the thing with Assos. They are damn expensive but you do get what you pay for. You could buy a few pairs of other make shorts during the same time Assos last you.

I think you might be right. The pair I have were purchased in the middle of winter, which - I guess - makes them more likely to be fleecy rather than Lycra. I'll have a think about getting another pair. Not keen on Gore, brucebanner. :-/

I'm currently waiting on sizing info from the Nalini eBay seller. Sorely tempted by the Assos, though - just for a change. I can live with the expense if it means a really top-notch pair of tights. My clubmate swears by Assos. He also tells a story about great customer service which is colouring my judgment a bit: he ripped a pair of Assos bibshorts (in a crash caused by someone else, I think.) He posted the shorts back to the factory and explained what had happened. A few weeks later the shorts came back, good as new. Assos had replaced the ripped panel. No charge.

Ta for all the replies, people. Much appreciated. :D

The returns/repair service is also what you pay for. Bloody good if you ask me. i would be very surprised if you are not satisfied with Assos quite honestly.
